Tarantino is my favorite director. Films like Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction are excellent.

His eye for detail, flare for story telling and musical tastes make for excellent entertainment...

Was wondering what you thought about him and which are your top Tarantino films and why.

Tarantino is a Pompus, self absorbed, freak. Right in the same catagory as Tom Cruise and Paris Hilton.

Jackie Brown is by FAR his best work to date. Pam Grier and Michael Keaton carried that film, Chris Tucker's brief character was good too.

shitbox: Tarantino is a Pompus, self absorbed, freak.

You would be hard pressed to find anyone who digs every aspect of moviemaking the way Quentin does. Yeah I'm a fan, I know he rips shit off (but exactly how many average fukkrs actually watched the source material, like For A Better Tomorrow for instance), his shit is cheesy and he digs feet WAY too much. But I like his work, and I've never seen him be a dick to anyone who asks him a straight question.

Why exactly is he a pompous , self absorbed, freak?
And how does "self absorbed" even rank as a negative, why the fuk can't he be self absorbed, I sure as fuk am.

Cut the bullshit, we ain't on a

(pause)
I don't believe this shit, both of
you got ten years on me, and I'm
the only one actin like a
professional. You guys act like a
bunch of fuckin niggers. You ever
work a job with a bunch of
niggers? They're just like you
two, always fightin, always sayin
they're gonna kill one another.

And ..........
LANCE
Am I a nigger? Are you in
Inglewood? No. You're in my
house. White people who know the
difference between good shit and
bad shit, this is the house they
come to. My shit, I'll take the
Pepsi Challenge with Amsterdam shit
any ol' day of the fuckin' week.

JIMMIE
-- I'm talkin'. Now let me ask you
a question, Jules. When you drove
in here, did you notice a sign out
front that said, "Dead nigger
storage?"
KATE
Richie, will you do me a favor and eat
my pussy?

Not that I haven't heard these before but they come when you least expect it. Also I hear "Yo nigga" and "Damn Nigga" all the time. But the way he inserted them into the scripts was prety good and unexpected.

His movies sport awesome dialogue you don't hear anywhere else. As a director (or perhaps scriptwriter?) he's a little too self-aware and precious at times. Also, he clearly needs to fuck Uma "Goddamned Ugly" Thurman and get it over with.

As a human, he needs to stay out from in front of any camera ever. Nails on chalkboard when he opens that liver-lined mouth of his and starts speaking or that thing he does he possibly calls "acting."

Werd...that dude's shit just FLOWS.
vasudeva: ...he clearly needs to fuck Uma "Goddamned Ugly" Thurman and get it over with.

I'd give ready money to watch.
vasudeva: As a human, he needs to stay out from in front of any camera ever. Nails on chalkboard when he opens that liver-lined mouth of his and starts speaking or that thing he does he possibly calls "acting."

I'll give THAT SHIT an Amen and a Halleliujah.
Example:
TARANTINO, THE UNACTOR: "don't fuckin' Jimmie me, Jules.. There's nothin' you can say that's gonna make me forget I love my wife. Now she's working the graveyard shift - at the hospital. She'll be coming home in less than an hour and a half."

FUKING BRUTAL DELIVERY...he had to be doing that shit on purpose it was so fuking awful.

Otherwise, I concur w/LK...I love the way the guy tells a story.

I don't know if I'd use the word genius, but I'd sit down and have a beer with the guy. So would most of you, and you know it.

That "Madonna" Ritchie guy (arghhh) he's pretty cool too.

Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible cunt: Me." Flat Top

Lots o debate about this at film school.
is he a thief is he a genius is he just a dude

LK= Winnar

No one loves film like tarantino does. His knack for nostalgia could be considered some sort of genius?? Most have not even heard of much less seen the films he "steals" from.

However his is a bit of a jackass cause he isn't very nice to people at the Arclight Cinema in hollywood. He got all drunk one night came in late for a film and starts yelling about "do you know who I am" "I will never let a my movie premier here. Then say hello to KB2.

Favorite = True Romance

I have plenty of posts that don't hate on LS members!!! It was just that one weekend I was bushing buttons for fun. Vas told me to learn from it so did LK and I did.

Being 26 means I'm still willing to learn. Seing as how I can barely find my asshole with a flashlight and a mirror.

I do know alot about film though cause I have a degree from USC. Fight on trojans.

tarantino's personality aside, he does make entertaining movies.

nothing deep, nothing fancy, but damn entertaining.
they are like the name pulp fiction implies - pulp. lots of fluff - good visuals and good dialog. maybe short on story, but mindlessly enjoyable entertainment nontheless.

genius? goof? i'd say something inbetween. but his movies will be known for many many years to come.

He's a genius and a visionary. How many directors have a genre definition for them? He has the pulse of the movie audience because as LK said, he's such a fan. Shocking, poigniant, great soundtracks, timely, historic. He makes cultural statements that people relate to, I offer that anyone who doesn't like his work just doesn't understand it. I love all his shit

he's a little too self-aware and precious at times. Also, he clearly needs to fuck Uma "Goddamned Ugly" Thurman and get it over with.

WTF are you talkin about? SHE IS FINE,(Dangerous LIasons, Gattaca) I'd pay to see anybody fuck her, and did you mean precocious?

As for his so-called acting you're right, but he's got a right, shit M.Night Shamalama puts himself in his own movies. They think they're Hitchcock, and what an ego he had.

Maybe genius isn't the right word, but the motherfucker is EXPERT at getting the best performances out of his actors. His cinematagraphy, pacing, scripts, music-all extremely well done. If this guy isn't the most talented director of our time, who is? Stone? Lynch? Spike?

And I'm not attracted to Uma Thurman.

No, I meant precious.

Also, Uma Thurman has a face like an ugly thumb.

Here's a FILM CHALLENGE for you. Watch Kill Bill, just part 2. Count all the times any character -- and it's just about all of them -- refer to Uma Thurman as hot, or sexy, or delicious, or beautiful, or fine-ass mammajamma, or whatever. Once you start picking up on this, it's all you'll notice. it happens constantly.

Tarantino is obviously completely smitten with her, and I like to imagine him being too afraid and nerdy to actually tell her, so he puts his words in the mouths of his actors, hoping like any seventh-grade idiot she'll get the hint and marry him ASAP after hot sex in the broom closet.

In general, I don't think the director should have to remind us that the leading character is hot by making all the characters tell us; it should be obvious. The only good thing that's obvious about Uma Thurman is that as bad as she looks now, she'll only look worse in the years to come.

I give that three thumbs up.

first of all, i find the coens funny as fuk. your funny may vary i guess.

if it's homages you like ala tarantino, the coens are even more prolific, and they use them more in the course of storytelling rather than just fanboyish "lookit this" sequences, which tarantino seems to do (imo). they use film noir stylings a lot (miller's crossing, lebowski, hudsucker proxy). lebowski in particular has a whole big l.a. film noir underpinning. go read raymond chandler's "the big sleep" (philip marlowe l.a. detective story with an insanely convoluted plot) and then watch lebowski again.

fargo just gets better every time i see it, but it probably helps to know something of the character of northern plains state lutheran types and their penchant for fatalism and understatement. it appeals to me in some of the same ways that british comedy does, but it also has a woodchipper and spraying blood.

raising arizona: " take that diaper off your head and put it back on your sister."

a lot of "o brother" is about the music. and pomade. americana, i guess (which can be said of raising arizona too). also lots of parallels to "the odyssey". they digitally muted the color palette in the entire film to give it a depression-era sepiatone feeling, but not so much that you immediately notice.

writing this all down, it sounds borderline film-school geeky, so i'll stop. maybe i just like film noir and subtle comedy more than kung fu movies and afros. i dunno. shut the fuk up, donnie.

I don't "get" Woody Allen. The (admittedly not many) movies I've seen of his are ok, though usually boring, with long lavish scenes of him complaining and wallowing in self-doubt.

Watch the Kill Bill interviews on the DVD...you'll see. I dont dispute his talent, He did write Natural Born Killers, which was a film HE was going to make, Oliver Stone and him beefed over it. That film was one of the coolest stories to be put on film in the past 50 years.

As far as being self absorbed LK...I am too, I really dont hold selfishness to be a good thing though. And selfishness and self absorbancy(2-ply) seem to be basically the same thing. Oh well, kill the white man.
