Saw it.
I thought it was DECENT. Thats the most appropriate adjective I feel describes this film. I went in with REALLY low expectations and left saying 'hey, that shit wasnt that bad'. I think its worth seeing, whats your opinion?

I wanna see. I understand that it follows the book much more closely. This would create a darker film because Roald Dahl was such a cynic, bless his fear-filled hate festival candy coated heart.

The relentless sarcasm is what really did it for me.

It was weird as a purple turd...

It was good though. The Oompa Loompa songs were much better than in the original movie. Also, we got to see all the kids post-fucking-up. Not bad.

Supposedly, Depp modeled his character on Michael Jackson.

Uart:

If that was really the case wouldn't the film be illegal in about 48 states? (that sort of Michael Jackson stuff is "ok" in Alabama and Arkansas)

I am going to catch it tonight at our local IMAX theater. I think the oompalumpas might prove to be a little freaky towering above.

As per my earlier post, I watched Charlie & the Chocolate factory at an IMAX thater. If you have the chance, that is if you are in a city or town with an IMAX do yourself a favor and pony up the extra $3 and GO! Visually stunning at 5 stories tall!

Thought it was okay also, the theatre I saw it in was playing it way too loud so the oompa loompa songs were pretty much unintelligeble. I could've waited to see it on DVD.

We went to see it in an old style, family run theatre at a matinee showing. The audience subdued, taquitos and fudge smuggled in, we sat in anticipation.
The opening dragged a bit, but set a mood close to the book, but when they finally entered and started the tour, only the pussy ending and bullshit flashbacks blew chunks. i've watched Christopher Lee play everything from Dr. frankenstein to a circus owner in "Billy the kid Vs. Dracula", but pack this monkey in a dead box.
Four bong hits and a cheeto.

I honestly believed that a 21st century film of Dahls book starring Depp could have been the ingredient for a classic in the making but as per the movie mongols opted for a more fluffy bunnie wabbit version, mainly to promote a torrent of merchandize that is bound to spew into a store near you asap.

Huge let down, though i'd still do Depp at the drop of a wonky hat.

There was only one thing worth watching and that was Wonka and the TV kid paying each other out.

Even the tunnel scene sux0red compared to the original whose freaky mind bender acid trip was teh awesome c00l.

Saw it at the drive-in this weekend with the weif and daughter. Now maybe it's more faithful to the book (dunno; never read it), but one thing I distinctly missed was Gene Wilder's unexpected "the-tour-is-over-now-get-the-fuck-out" turn near the end of the first movie, along with his bitter denunciation of Charlie. YOU STOLE FIZZY LIFTING DRINK!! That was treacherous great stuff.

Also saw it at the drive-in last weekendwith LordKahuna & baby. Johnny Depp was amazing in this role (as he is in every role). My favorite line "I'm Violet Beauregarde" - "I don't care" LK 's favorite line "Don't touch that squirrel's nuts!"

I was born with two glass eyes, so I have to say that the soundtrack was wonderful.
