The bastards have hit london now - three bombs (so far) on the underground network and one on a tourist (?) red bus, coinciding with the G8 summit. 'shortly before 9:00am' (local time). Hundreds of casualties. What a pointless waste - especially as it only strengthens resolve against the protagonists at a time when the leaders are trying to help them.

Anyone got any news apart from the official versions? Heard it had the obvious Al Quaeda connection... sick fucks.

protagonists - them that done it

'them' - the disadvantaged/starving/poor

sorry - unclear wording. I meant that it's sick that these people are trying to hit London while London and the rest of the G8 are trying to stop the inequality in the world and help those that need it most. This, naturally would not be the protagonists as they quite clearly have more than enough resources.

Coincidence?
No, i think Osama bin Laden has cutted the bowden wires.

I like these newspeople
"the people here seem to be excited"
No. Really. Its like standing in the Tsunami and saying "Its a little wet here, uhm?"

Serious:
Thats the best Advertising the G8 summit can get!
Anyone seen Brazil?
Regardless whether it was Al Quaida or not, the effects are the same.

Mr Blair said that they won´t take away our values and the things
that are important to us.
Well thats fine with me, Iraq and Afghanistan arent important to me.

Tricky: protagonists - them that done it

hmmm. 'protagonist' is a literary term, usually used to refer to the principal character in a struggle. opposing the protagonist is one or more antagonists, who are usually regarded as villains. this is the crux of the biscuit at the center of my confusion.

'them' - the disadvantaged/starving/poor

sorry - unclear wording. I meant that it's sick that these people are trying to hit London while London and the rest of the G8 are trying to stop the inequality in the world and help those that need it most. This, naturally would not be the protagonists as they quite clearly have more than enough resources.

as for the g8 having the interests of the 'disadvantaged' at heart, that's a topic for a whole separate long and incendiary thread. as for al queda, if they're indeed responsible (looks likely), they're only concerned with their agenda and could give a rat's ass about poor starving people, in spite of their rhetoric.

I actually skived the day off, so I've been watching it all unfold on TV. Latest I know is they're (Charles Clarke - Home Secretary) saying 4 bombs (3 on tube, 1 on bus), lots of people injured but fatalities in the "10's and not 100's" (news about 30 mins ago).

Blair is going back to London for the day for Parliament meeting, but is going back to G8 tonight. G8 is still going ahead.

Blair said the "terrorist attacks" were clearly designed to coincide with the G-8 summit opening in Gleneagles, Scotland. They also came a day after London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics. A group calling itself "The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe" claimed responsibility.
It was the fucking french. Fuckers wanted the olympics in paris and will stop at nothing to get it.

45 ish dead, glad you wern't there Lefen... I was in north London yesterday - well - Yeading area anyway, glad that visit wasn't today - though I think all the blasts took place in central London. Apparently a suicide bomber did the bus - those fuckerz - I think we are going to see more support on the war on TEH-TERRAR here in the UK now. AHHH conspiracy - the CIA did it to gain support! Nah, it'd be more likely to be the French.

It must have been frickin’ scary being there in all that carnage though, and makes me feel a little sick.

ugh. I *trust* that the British are more aware (better educated and able to think for themselves) of what's going on and how to deal with it than Americans were. If they actually start listening to their politicians and go buy a bunch of cheap plastic crap/SUVs and wave tiny Union Jacks while agreeing to things like "British Patriot Act", we might as well go live on Jupiter or somewhere far away from here.

Don't prove me wrong lefen, you fuking cunt.

from billmon.org:

And so we return to the real war -- the one that can't be fought with F-16s and Abrams tanks, the back alley war of sleeper cells and pipe bombs and coded messages left on Internet chat boards. Of paid informants and "extraordinary reditions." Of torture and hit squads. The dirty war.

The next few days would probably be a good time to stay away from the TV. On top of the televised gore and the stunned faces of the survivors, we'll have to endure the canned Churchillian rhetoric of Messrs. Blair and Bush. Blitzes will be remembered; blood, sweat and tears promised, ultimate victory predicted. The babbling heads of cable news will babble even louder. Conservative con artists will figure the angles and work out the attack lines to use against the liberals -- whatever it takes to drown out the fact that, nearly four years after 9/11, Bin Ladin still lives and Al Qaeda is back in business. Mission unaccomplished.

if anyone has the stomach to monitor cable news, it would be interesting to see how accurate this turns out to be.

Churchillian Rhetoric, eh?

The price of greatness is responsibility.

Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.

One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.

We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire...Give us the tools and we will finish the job.

Mofo: Churchillian Rhetoric, eh?

churchillian - adj : of or relating to or suggestive of winston churchill

rhetoric - n : skill in using language effectively and persuasively
a. a style of speaking or writing, especially the language of a particular subject: fiery political rhetoric.
b. language that is elaborate, pretentious, insincere, or intellectually vacuous: his offers of compromise were mere rhetoric.

churchill's own words are not churchillian rhetoric. they are merely churchillian.

Do you suppose that it’s a coincidence that earlier this week, Al-Jazeera was reporting that the Brits were planning a large scale back of troops in Iraq?

bit of funny from a london blogger:

Londoners Rule

We are not terrorised.

We are just annoyed.

The Germans tried to terrorise Londoners for 40 nights. Londoners just camped out in the Tube singing songs.

The IRA tried to terrorise the British for decades. The British just used the destruction of buildings as unplanned town planning and revamped their bombed cities.

Now these amateurs think they can scare us by messing up the transport system? Bah. We're just pissed off that we can't meet our friend for coffee in the West End.

Piss off, terrorists. Go pick on someone who gives a shit.... You'll get the reaction you want from Americans. Try them again.*
* not really, obviously

He's right of course. Seeing as how only two major terrorists attacks have happened in America, we do tend to blow stuff out of perportion.

And how bout this one:
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.
