Oh yeah, Dakota Fanning's screaming shrill voice makes child murder seem reasonable.

So I saw it the other night with LMF. The special effects were great, as was the sound. I liked it even though I disliked a few things: 1) The girl's screaming got on my nerves. 2) The pseudoscience had huge holes in it. 3) Why did TC have to kill Tim Robbins?

I wish Spielberg would do more than one sci-fi movie every few years, as I think he still does a pretty decent job with them.

tantrum:
I liked it ok. It was not worth the theater admission price, here's why:

1. Veeery weak resolution to story.

Um, then blame it on H.G. Wells, he wrote the ending. The only lame part of the ending was how grandma's house was unscathed. Personally I wanted the bitch to be fried along with Dakota's brother.

tantrum:
4. Too many reactions like "What is that?" instead of "Let's get the fuk out of here!" by main charactors and bystanders.

Supposedly "Let's get out of here" is the most used line in hollywood. At least they tried something different.

On the whole, it was a decent movie. BRROAWWWWW.

I took the wife and kid to see this one.

The movie was pretty ok. I've never read the book, so it was actually a suprise ending for me. It's cool that the flu, or some sorta virus killed the invincable bad guys. Didn't see that coming. Excellent story. I think I'll read the book now.

The reunion with the son at the end pissed me off. No way he lived through the firestorm atop that hill and wasn't covered in 3rd degree burns from head to toe. I got the feeling that that sappy shit was added just to make young chicks cry at the end. Fuck that. Let 'em watch Lifetime or Oxygen if they want sappy, tear soaked endings.

Did Hollywood add that sappy ending reunion?

Finally saw this shit today. I loved the pods and aliens, but what was up with the needle tube and the blood spraying thing ? were they eating human guts or just expending vast energy to kill select individuals ?

I rented this a couple of weeks ago. Loved the tripods (BROAAAAAWWWWWWWWWW). I thinks they were grinding peeps up, for fuel and such. [Hey, don't read that last sentence if you haven't seen this; it might be a spoiler]. Not sure what their strategic goal was, beyond eating people.

It also seemed to resolve too abruptly, though I digged the Army guys taking out the tripod. The end puzzled me, because it looked like people all over the world turned into amoral kill-or-be-killed refugees, and here you have the ex-wife and grandparents stepping out of their Boston brownstone looking like they were on their way to an LL Bean photo shoot.

Still, a good rental.

I knew a guy in Alaska who operated one of those overhead cranes at the port at Anchorage. He made $125 an hour. Tom Cruise/Ray should of had a bigger house.
