Dunno if this is "serious shit" but I thought it a little more serious than "random shit". My most sincere apologies if this was posted in the wrong forum.
I've got a minor shipping dilemma that maybe you (or anyone else) could help me out with.
I bought a new digital camera online sunday. It shipped yesterday. I checked the tracking info this morning and it's scheduled to be delivered friday.
The trouble is; thinking that if it were shipped to my house, no one would be there to receive it and they'd either leave it on my porch to be stolen or take it back to their area distribution joint about 15 miles away. So, to avoid the hassle of having to go pick it up... I had it shipped to my office. There's always someone here to receive a package mon-fri 9-5.
Here's where it gets sad...
I am taking friday off to avoid the holiday weekend traffic (anyone from NJ will know EXACTLY what I am referring to)
So, my new camera is going to be sitting here in my office 'til tuesday when I return to work. I'd really like to have it for the weekend. We're having friends and family over on sunday for an Independence Day celebration and it would be a great opportunity to try out the new camera and maybe get some award winning fireworks photos. The thing is, I don't want it for the weekend bad enough to risk driving up here to get it and being stuck in traffic for hours to get it back home after I specifically took a vacation day to avoid it.
Is there any way to get FedEx to change the ship to address and have it delivered to my house instead?
Or, maybe have it delivered tomorrow instead of friday? (I'd imagine this is pretty difficult to achieve and will likely carry some HUGE $$$)

They'll change the destination no sweat. But to speed the delivery time may not be possible, even if money is no object.
Call 1-800-fed-ex or whatever.
My boss wanted me to overnight his medicine to him on vacation when his wife was unexpectedly hospitalized and their stay was longer than planned. Out of petty vengeance I procrastinated so that the delivery would arrive a day after he'd requested. TOUGH TITTAY FUCKER. But then he called and said the wife was released from the hospital and they were coming home - now. whoops. I had to change destination while the pkg was in transit and it was a long time with the phone to my ear but ultimately successful. |

Cool, thanks. I'll give that a shot.
Although I'm looking particulaly forward to "a long time with the phone to my ear".

I have twice had zero luck in trying to do what you're trying to do now, specifically with FedEx.
Additionally, I once had a package waiting for me at the local UPS hub, and I wanted to pick it up on Saturday, so I called and made sure I could come in before I drove down there. I got there and identified myself and said I'd like to pick up my package and the chick said "Oh, it's in the back of the truck all packed up... you can't go in there and look for it, but you can wait until Monday." I guess they thought I just wanted to tour the site.
If you have any luck with FedEx, post it. (Jew.)

from FedEx.com FAQ:
We may not honor a reroute request from the recipient except to Hold at FedEx Location within the original destination city after a delivery attempt has been made at the original address provided.
It appears that the rerouting request must be made by the sender NOT the recipient.

the sender I guess. The deal was "free shipping".
I made no arrangment for the shipment nor did I chose the shipper.

oh so true...
Also from FedEx.com FAQ
A special handling charge will be billed to the account number specified on the FedEx airbill for each rerouted package, and it will appear as an address correction on the invoice. This charge will not be applied when a package is changed to Hold at FedEx Location and the FedEx location is in the same city as the city on the airbill. Otherwise, the special handling charges will apply. See Rates in the FedEx Service Guide for details.

Fuk dat. Take a shit "a firm one" in a baggy. poke holes in it and package it up. Than ship it fed-ex to anywhere than in mid shipment call up and change the delevery location.
