Big tobacco didn't want legalized pot, and now that they're not in as much control, big liquor doesn't want legalized pot. Do you realize that the corn lobby is one of the most powerful lobbies in America? Do you realize that the corn lobby receieves the most subsidies? Think about this: we pay farmers to grow corn...as if it won't sell. Ever notice how much "high fructose corn syrup" is in food? It's because we subsidize the shit out of corn and have to find a place to put it all. The liqour lobby (not to mention a retarded section of America, and some well-intentioned sections) will never let it happen. |

Like any drug, its effects vary from person to person. Likewise, what you call "wooly-mindedness" can be a misinterepretation of genius. However, I agree that a random population sample would find the majority of cases to be of the patchouli wearing variety.
I think that pot should be legalized, regulated, taxed and treated with the same deference as alcohol. No smoking until you are 21 - then you can expand your mind, as it should be at that age, once you've spent your youth (high school, college) learning the basics. Apply proceeds from taxation and savings from the ineffective drug war to treatment programs and public awareness campaigns.
Now alcohol: that's the drug that inspires the real sedation, and far more social problems than pot, I'm sure. If it came to a choice, I'd take a dude who's lost on a psychoactive over an aggressive depressant dependent asshole any day.

AGREED. And besides, in the time you spend discussing, you could have located and smoked a bowl. Its really not that hard.
Whatever the possible benefits of legalization, it ain't happening any time soon, and who cares? Pot's easy to find mostly, and its tolerated by most people. They should lessen the harshness of the laws, but compared to the other shit that's happening in the world today filling you pipe legally is hardly something to be so angry about.
