The good news is that I finally got my computer on our wireless network. I've been sharing HellKats puter for about 8 months and really missed mine.
The bad news is that when I install the drivers for the G Link my system goes wild when I try to listen to music, watch a video or play a game.
It speeds up and slows down at random but never settles down to normal. Graphics are jerky and sounds are distorted and snap, crackle and pop.
When I uninstall the drivers everything goes back to normal. When I re-install them everything goes to shit again.
I had a similar problem about a year ago when I installed the drivers for a lexnark printer. I finally had to take the drivers out and get another printer. That's not an option this time.
I think it must be some kind of software conflict but I can't figure out what it is or how to fix it.
Any suggestions?

I don't have a small human handy and I don't want to wait two weeks until he gets back from camp.
And the elder gods never get a crack at any fried chicken within my reach.
I've already disabled my network card. The link is self contained and plugs into a USB port.

See if they have new drivers for the card. Failing that, set up a separate hardware profile where that device is disabled, and boot into it when you don't want craziness.

definitely sounds like a conflict between the driver and something else. In a "plug-n-pray" OS it usually works itself out, but only if the motherboard is set to tell it "be plug-n-pray" and the cards, drivers, devices heed that as well.
How to checks? Go to bios, dig around see if it has a plugnplay setting and while you are at it update the bios version!
Seconds, go into the device mangler thingy [rght-clicky my computa, go manage!] and check out the little yellow bangs! heck for added fun, remove and redetect anything to do with networking and sound and whatnot.
Oh and another thingy, update your direct X, apply all the stupid and latest M$ patches and wipe the lube off your ass when you are done. |

Azron: I have a d-link card with the same squirrely attributes you describe. The only thing I can suggest is that you hit up dslreports.com and search through their d-link forum for "Atheros" drivers.
Your d-link card is likely based on an Atheros chipset, and there are certain drivers for certain d-link models. For example, I have a DWL-G520 PCI Card and the corresponding atheros drivers, which I could send if you have the same card, rock out.
The vanilla d-link drivers SUCK, you're better off using atheros drivers, or at the very least, letting windows networking manage your wireless connection. stay away from the d-link bundled app!

if you are using an AGP graphics card, and the wireless adapter you are using is installed into the PCI slot directly next to your AGP slot... This is a big no-no. Move your wireless adapter to a different slot.
If you are using a PCI graphics card, it sounds like it could be an interrupt conflict of some sort. Try changing the IRQ on the video card, or physically moving the card to a different slot in your computer.
Make sure that your BIOS is setup to not assign an IRQ to a VGA adapter.
