One of the very best professors I ever had just died of cancer. I took three or four of her literature classes when I was in college, and I believe her insights and manner had a substantial positive effect on my direction and life-outlook.

So as it's graduation time for lotsa people, what were/are your favorite courses, teachers and why? SUBMIT DAMNIT!

I've gotta admire Science and Math teachers, seems they teach stuff that most students just don't get, but they press on for the clueless and motivated alike.

My favorite, and most challenging classes were the Lit courses I took. I pull my hair out trying to find an angle and compose a perfect paper. The Lit instructors I have had were all incredibly enthusiastic, made me actually appreciate poetry of all things. Most recently I had a Mad Black Woman for World LIt who was relentless and unforgiving in giving out assignments, yet couldn't seem to get one paper graded a month. Felt like I was in a Minorities Studies class at times but was most proud of the A I got for persevering and acing every paper and test.

I'm a Communications major. My favorite courses are all the TV/Audio/Video/Whatever production classes I take and all of those professors because they meet the following criteria of excellence:

1) Not boring.
2) Relevant to my goals.
3) Fun.

I have only had two other classes outside my major that met these requirements. Both were taught by Kevin Miles. They were both Philosophy classes, a subject I normally hate because of the obnoxious attitudes of the professors and fellow students. Kevin is good professor, but about a year ago, when he was up for tenure, my university didn't grant it. Now he teaches here.

Oh well. No more philosophy for me after that.

I took this dope ass class called "drugs in society". I could have basically taught the class but I did learn a few things. Like, how our government doesent want to legalize marijuana cause the tobbaco and alcohol lobbyists say so. They are scared that they will lose too much money, boo fucking hoo.

Anyway, the teacher, Mrs. Basti, was a cool chick and was uncannily hip for her age. Coolness.

Well, back in school my chemistry mistress was always fun.
Sometimes she rooted out her Hairs and cried "you ruined" my life.
Beside of that, she was dumb and incompetent on the social level.
History Lessons where always fun, the teacher was well kwown for her rigor teaching style, but it was always exciting to hear her stories.

My business studies mistress, she was funny, taking away all the illusions you have when you are a n00b in that biz.

Later, in my final secondary-school examinations, i liked my german-lessons, and mistress the most. She was clever, and while
most of class was busy with other stuff, i talked to hear and learned a lot about the double entendre of sentences, what is said and what is meant.
Plus it was always fun to go without preparation to the tests, writing some bullshit about yin-yang, buddhism, using bizarre tv-references and quoting my favorite books and getting the best marks anyway. (*pose*)
In regard of the contents it was right, but i knowed some teachers which doesnt wanted you to explain in your own words.

At last, my english teacher as i started my further education.
I didnt really need him, i just choosed english to hang around a bit.
It was the first month of my education and i dont wanted to work from the first day on. He studied psychology in the us and later settled to germany. We talked a lot about religion, art and philosophy.

I had a Russian History professor who would stand at the front of the room and hurl a tennis ball at the back wall between the aisles of desks. I hated that class then, but looking back it is the one I remember with most fondness.

“see this ball? This is KNOWLEDGE. See that wall? That wall is your BRAIN. Bam-bounce”

Dude, I know you're German, but it's still super-funny to hear you talk about mistresses. Here in the US, "mistress" is mostly used by sadomasochists to refer to really fat chicks that whip you for mutual fun (?).

I had a freshman biology teacher that used to teach abroad. He knew arabic and cussed at us in it. He taught about drugs, didn't give a shit as Mexicans did coke in the back of his class room, told us what shrooms to pick and what the avoid. Awesome guy, went to teach in Amsterdam.

I also had a geometery teacher that threw erasers, chalk, and anything he could grab at people sleeping in his class.
