First off, I am a huge fan of Luc Besson's work, he brings the european "feel" to hollywood and leaves the trash in France.

I thought this movie was great, solid acting all around. I was a bit doubtful that Jet Li could improve his acting ability (he was no slouch in Romeo Must Die, or Kiss of the Dragon) but I was pleasantly surprised. Bob Hoskins is a stellar actor, and his performance as a ruthless scumbag crime boss was terrific. Morgan Freeman did his job as the WISE NEGRO well.

The action was choreographed by Woo-ping Yuen, he is the new master of beat-em-up (he gave us the sweet violence seen in the Matrix(x3), both Kill Bills and Kung Fu Hustle). The opening scene is worth the admission alone.

Massive Attack did the music, it's groovy.

What I like most about this movie is it's originality, book/comic/videogame/amusemant park ride adaptations have started to stink up Hollywood as of late, it's nice to see a fresh story hit the big screen.

Go see it, seriously.

Speaking of which, I just watched "Ong Bak," the movie, last night. Good lord, did that rawk! This Jaa guy is like Jet Li and Jackie Chan combined. Lotsa fun, _very_ good technique, lots of precision, this movie keeps it real. Suprisingly good camera work: style is obviously borrowed from Besson, but better. The movie features almost no wire work, which makes it pretty amazing.

Just saw It. After my last post i realized you didn't SAY he directed it, no big whoop. I was really impressed with the fight scene in the narrow bathroom. The director of this film also directed The Transporter w/ Jason Stratham. The Transporter 2 will be out this year(also directed by Louis Leterrier). Side note, cool. preview for the Land of the Dead, another George Romero bloodfest! Horray!

I've been wanting to see this movie, largely because of the Rza/Massive Attick soundtrack.

Yeah, me and LBP saw this Friday night. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a huge fan of Jet Li -- most of the films I've seen him in give him a lot of Vin Diesel-style bad-ass one-liners, but not this time.

I had read some bad reviews about it, and it's possible my expectations were slightly low to begin with, but I really had no complaints at all. Even after reading "Jet Li emoting? BARF." on IMDB or somewhere.

One thing in particular I liked was that there were very very few parts where the fight-scene choreography fell through so you could see villain #7 waiting for his cue instead of rushing in to attack.

I hated this movie.

The coming attractions made this out to be an action flick, but was a love/drama. I remember seeing about 4 fight scenes and entirely too much piano and bullshit drama.
