Wow. What an awesomely sweet-ass movie. Seriously. It was like watching a comic come alive. I used to think that the recent Spider-Man films were as good as you could get but Sin City certainly raised the bar higher than ever.
Quentin Tarantino was the special guest director, but I think he was just consulted on matters pertaining to blood spray and gore.
Anyway, I'm not much a movie reviewer. I did like the move a LOT, and I do think they totally captured Frank Miller's masterful essence of "comic noir".
What do y'all think?

I've read some of the SIN CITY series and really look forward to seeing the movie.

This movie is a fuking blast. I look at all films that are comic book retreads with a very critical eye. This is the first film which I can honestly say catpures the essence of the comic it is trying to recreate. It is an exciting example of how digital effects can compliment a movie instead of overpowering or distracting from it. Visually, the film is dark, beautiful, and menancing. A great tribute to the comic and valid artisically in it's own right. Jesus Christ, it's got naked chicks with guns, cannibalism, tar pits, ninja stars, and more....GO SEE IT!
This is the first movie in a long while that I could say I had fun at, if that makes any sense. Let it be noted that I had 66 ounces of Newcastle in me to facilitate the appearance of my inner 15 year old. Who by the way, shuddered with glee as a woman two rows down cried out and got up to leave the theater during one of the many violent scenes in the film. That inner 15 year old also might have been heard saying sarcastically to the woman and her friend as they were leaving, "Sorry, it's not Dick Tracy, is it?" To which she replied, "Um, no, I can't take any more of this."
This movie won't be for everyone. But for those of us that "can take it" this movie will only leave you wanting more. |

Probably Robert Rodriguez's best film.
Quentin Tarantino directed a quick driving scene between Dwight and Jackie Boy apparently.
Mickey Rourke as Marv was fuking brilliant, "The Hard Goodbye" sequence was exactly like the comic, and Elijah Wood was spectacular in his non-speaking role as Kevin (dude gave me chills).
This is the best comic adaptation since Hellboy.

This movie was boner inspiring. Marv was portrayed exactly as I thought of him in my head. The casting was amazing, and I smiled wide when the opening credits showed each character from the comic with the actor's name next to it. It was so perfect.
Sadly, Michael Madsen was the worst actor in the movie. I don't know what his deal was, but WIllis, Rourke, and even Jessica Fukin Alba acted circles around him. Maybe he came for the paycheck, or he isn't used to blue screen work.
Meta: Hellboy rocked. Fuck you.

Hellboy still sucks.
...But let's focus on how much of a bad-ass Frank Miller is. Does anyone have a favorite of his? (other than Sin City). I'd have to say my personal favorite is Batman: Year One. He singlehandedly made Batman the baddest dude around - slappin pimps, gettin stabbed by hoes, takin bullets, kicking thick trees in half, doing triple backflips/twists while skiing and being a generally hateful bastard. I must've read that thing dozens of times. Rawk.

Wow, just saw this film and thought it did justice to the text version of Sin City. Elijah Wood was definetly creepy.
Anyway, this is kinda how I pictured Max Payne would look as a film. Very noir-ish.
And the hellboy film was great...the ending could have been a little better though.

I recently read the Ronin trade, very cool, and way ahead of it's time.

"Comic noir". I like that. In fact, I've been waiting for someone to do a book-to-film project in this kind of fashion and I'm not surprised Tarantino was the one to finally go for it. I haven't seen the movie yet but I know I will rock out all the way to the concession stand when I do. Even though I (shamefully) have no idea what Sin City is about. |

Oh my GOD, this movie rocked so hard in every conceivable way. It was beautiful visually, and its pace made up for some of the lackluster acting (there wasn't even much of that.)
The high level of gratuitous violence proved even more awesome to me when an old dude and his wife sitting behind me suddenly gasped during a fight scene and left.
LOLLY.
Easily R. Rodriguez's best movie yet.

My only complaints:
#1: Jessica Alba was not naked :*(
#2: It is a crime to have two Hot Naked Lesbians in a movie and not have any Hot Lesbian Action.
A shameful crime.

Most "true to source material" comic book adaptation ever. Also, quite a fun and dazzling ride.
Micky Rourke: Spectacular. The whole Marv story was perfect.
Jessica Alba should have bee naked (not being true to the art, Jessica).
Hellboy : could have been better, but I can't put my finger on exactly how. |
