I need some tech help please!!!! I have forgotton my CMOS password on my laptop. It's using a PHOENIX BIOS and I have tried all back door passwords. The floppy drive disabled for the bootup so effectively I can not communicate with the CPU. Has anybody got any constructive solutions to solve my problem? It is becoming more apparent that I will need to remove the CMOS battery to reset the CMOS......unless anybody has a silver bullet?

THANX!
Andy

Is it a ThinkPad? If so, you're screwed, unless you want to ship it back to IBM so they can replace the mainboard and charge you $500 or however much it is nowadays.

Otherwise, if you've tried all the Phoenix BIOS passwords (and maybe all the model-specific ones, if I recall correctly), then you may have luck disassembling the thing.

What's the model?

Sounds all too reasonable. Let us know how it goes.

And if you've never cracked open a laptop this way, you might want to keep track of what goes where with a diagram, including even the screws.

Either that, or get good and drunk first. The booze'll keep you from getting bored with trying not to crack the delicate fittings, and, if you're the type that gets hangovers easily, the next morning's headache+nausea circus will keep you from caring that you now have a unworking piece of shit laptop.

You sure could. You'd have to send $5, too, though, to keep me from snooping through your data: I'm the kind of forensic loony who gets a hard-on from spending hours sifting through strange hard drives to see just what's up.

(I once found shit-eating and animal porn on the hard drive of the #2 guy at my huge international company. But don't worry, Mr. Picarelli, your secret is safe with me.)
