Here's the body of some spam I've got from some lame AskJeeves "Members Only" crap I have yet to opt out of:
"So you think your kid's valedictorian material? Millions of others think the same about their student.
Help your student stand out with Microsoft® Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers. Now only $149*!
It's a competitive world out there. And even the best students could use a little help. Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers comes with a variety of sophisticated features that help students organize information and engage in critical thinking and analysis. Plus, presentation tools that help students communicate their ideas effectively."
That's right, parents: you may think little Johny is special, but how will he distinguish himself without the help of Office XP Standard (now only $149)? After all, how will he improve his "critical thinking" and "communication" skills without our lovely Fisher-Price Crapware? He just may have a shot at being Class Valedictorian -- but not without Microsoft's groundbreaking new productivity applications!
Fuking shameless.

Well, it's Microsoft! What did you expect? And anyway, WinXP kinda sucks. My opinion is that the best OS Microsoft ever made was Win98. Ever since the 2k edition, they opened this new port (445, I think it was), and in WinXP, full raw socket API (Application Programming Interface ) is supported, making it one of the worst systems OS (security-wise) I've seen. I don't know about you guys, but I'm switching to Linux!

That is the wackiest shit I have ever heard!
Yes, RAW SOCKET support is now native to Windows XP, but it always was available - depending upon network protocol. Port 445 [SMB] has always been used by Microssoft for Directory Services [DS]
You're probably referring to the end point mapper service supported on port 135 UDP and TCP and that used for DCOM RPC - which by the way, is normally only open on internal interfaces, or dynamically opened to encrypted requests sent by external authenticated users.
If you had any idea at all about what you were talking about, you would know that there are 46 well know ways to root any Linuces or Unices box over SUN RPC port 111, which is used identically, but is not nearly as locked down, or well known. In fact, most of the servers in the farm that this site is hosted on are rooted so deeply that not only would one not know it, one would have one hell of a time cleaning them.
So, please for the love of God, and anyone who knows how to read, shut up about shit you have no clue about - leave the commentary for those that have worked their asses off in school and in the field and who actually build, deploy and support systems of all types.
And by all means, if you are truly interested, get back in and "stay" in school! |
