i'm not a super techie, but i agree... i've spent too much time arguing with people who should know better. i'm just too... lazy, i guess to gain knowledge that won't pay off in the short run. sigh. then again considering what i do, i gots shit locked down tite, yo.

Idiots abound. There was this guy that worked where I do that decided to get himself his first computer last year. I had just built my second, and he started hitting me up with all kinds of questions. I'm no tech genius by any standard. He'd use his friends internet connection to shop around. It drove me insane. This guy had no clue. Yet, since he had been reading about the stuff decided to throw about words that he obviously had no understanding of.
"I found a nice system last night."
"Oh?"
"Ya, it had like a 30mb hard drive and 100mhz front bus."
"uh huh..."
"Only had a 23 on the monitor though."
"23 inch?!"
"Uh...it was some off-brand I'd never heard of. I'll just keep on looking."

I know that this is an old thread but what the hay.
We've got a tech here that just graduated from a decent University with an IT degree. I've never met anyone dumber in my life. He knows nothing.
He didn't know what terminal services were.
(Worse) He couldn't run updates !!!!

I worked for a company that did internet tech support for microflacid, this was worst job I have ever had in my entire life, and I have had many bad jobs. Basic bullshit, customer calling in with connection problems, email bullshit and the assorted ho hum for 8 long hours. We had a list of techie shit we would run through on the phone with grandma or the non English speaking asshat then try to come up with a solution all of which had to be done in less than 7 minutes, bing bang boom. One day I recall a customer with a ticket of over 50 calls into tech support for connection problems and no one had been able to figure it out. The customer had two phone lines in the house, one dedicated to the computer; after spending more than a 15 minutes running through all of the bull shit that everyone else had already done several times over, I said… go get a phone and plug it into the line that the computer is using and see if you get a dial tone. That fucking simple, the phone line was dead, and of course they could not connect up and get the great deals from microflacid!

yesterday teh boss brought his home computer in for me to fix0r. first step... install a nic so's I can connect to network/internet and download windows updates, virus definitions, etc.
so, I'm sitting there with his box on its side with the panel off and an intel nic in my hand... teh self proclaimed "god of all things digital" comes in and says: "ah... installin' some memory, huh?"
I loves me job

LOL, okay here's one. Our boss one day is arguing with someone and proclaiming that we don't use CSS ! We inform him that yes, we have been using it for years! Now matter what you say to this fuck he asserts that he's right. His response was "Oh I though Coldfusion handled that....?"
He thought that the CF server parsed CSS???

i swear to god, if one more Verizon DSL tech has my mom ping out to 127.0.0.1 (of course with replies) and tells her that the internet is working fine, it's her computer, I will fucking drive down there myself and shoot every last one of those numb skull bastards
