Ender's game by Orson Scott Card. Or Penthouse's collection of letters to the editor.

Try a Terry Pratchet book or 20. He's the most prolific English author ever, and, by god he's fuckin' funny, if you are into escapism which is what books are, you'll like this guy's books.

My family gave this to me when I graduated from college. It makes no promises that the places you'll go will be all happy. Just like life.

I can never get through Green Eggs and Ham without laughing like a loon. Starts as a chuckle as the straight faced stalwart begins to lose his cool at repeatedly refusing to partake.

As the glistening sheen of politeness drips away, I laugh harder and harder.

"Glistening sheen of politeness." I MUST find a way to work that into a conversation sometime.

Another hand up for Neil Gaiman, just finished re-reading American Gods. Tasty.

Must have been too immersed in "real" life in general the first time I tried Neverwhere - got a severe case of "Okay, wait a minute... what?" Shook my brain back into place and tried again, and liked it - but I think American Gods is better.

IF you truelly read his stuff it's not just escapism, he's on par with Jonathan Swift in the satire category. Read into it a little more, escapism is just the start with Pratchett.

I think I learned to read from Dr. Suess and roadsigns on trips more than anything else.

Does anybody remember one about a Tweedle Beetle Battle in a Bottle in a Puddle?

I just finished The Witches of Chiswick by Robert Rankin. It's a great book. Classic British sci-fi humour. Highly recommend it.

I've had this horror fixation this summer. My list:

Bram Stoker's Dracula
'Salem's Lot
I am Legend
Frankenstien
Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde
Various Richard Matheson short stories
I am currently reading "Interview with the Vampire" which will be followed of "The Vampire Lestat" and then "Queen of The Damned" I might slip in a few books on (Democratic) Socialism. YAYY! Viva La Revolution!

I don't know, I'm positive this book is good, but I seem to just be reading "moster books" and I don't know why! I'll definetley check this one out, along with Pet Cemetary (yes? no?).

Heather; I am Legend may be a short story, but my God is it porwerful. I was hooked on every one of the 179 pages. The final paragraph/line of that story is truly memorable. Even if you loathe short stories, I suggest reading this one. Besides, I see you too have an affinity for monster horror, and this one is a great tale of... Vampires? Sure, we'll call them that.

As a plus, the version of I Am Legend I own includes several other Matheson shorts. Some of them are freaky and fantastic reads.

I am currently reading Beowulf and The Silmarillion.

Beowulf is hard to follow but a great piece of Anglo-Saxon literature influenced by Danish and Jutish lore.

The Silmarillion is kinda like reading the bible but its engrossing to a point.

All time favorite book has to be Dune though.

i've been trying to figure out who this author is, can anyone help?

a friend in college read his books, they were quirky and hilarious (allegiadly) but i never got the chance to read them. he wrote more than one book. i remember something about frogs. the only other thing i can think of is there's a part in one book where some environmentalists are trying to smuggle endangered moths through airport security in an acoustic guitar and customs finds out and starts smashing the guitar and moths to bits.

There are two versions of this movie. One with Charlton Heston entitled, "Omega Man" and the one you saw "The Last Man on Earth". I can't be sure, but I think the former sticks more closely to the story than the latter. Also, I've heard that "The Last Man on Earth" is just plain lame. Check out "Omega Man"!
