ghostrider's journal: meeping Apple
I get back from Cali to find that my iTunes playlist has been deleted. I'll admit some were Lwire'd, but most were from my cd's. They had been sending me subtle warning i guess for the past moth or so. Apple Store will never get a meeping penny from me. I was gonna get a next gen Mac in the next year, as I have stepped up my home recordings quite a bit. I'm guessing I could take the money that would cost and get me a killer pc. I talked to musician friends back home, and I guess the capabilites of MS products for recording have vastly improved.

k, so the x-bombs are doing their job. they are in their natural place inside my receptors. the pony girls are to the right of me and are busy with each other. fear not, they will wait until i'm done. i realize my monitor is a big loving head that guides my soul journey on the internets (hee hee). warm feelings of bright orange and yellow gush forth from my hands and face. i have nothing but love for everything and everyone. i can gaze at my life, and life in general, like an old man gazing at the overfed goldfish in the circular bowl. i have blisters on my fingers from gripping the stratocaster neck like it was a life raft in the perfect storm. caught in the camera eye i have no heart to lie i can't pretend the stranger is a long awaited friend. you are not me, and right now, i am also not me. press "0" if you would like to talk to an operator. i love operators, they make this world go around. i had a dream once, but i don't anymore. if you can touch this, read me at once. cover me, i'm going in...

Inside David Foster Wallace's Private Self-Help Library
One surprise was the number of popular self-help books in the collection, and the care and attention with which he read and reread them. I mean stuff of the best-sellingest, Oprah-level cheesiness and la-la reputation was to be found in Wallace's library.
This website is a comprehensive source of government manuals, in PDF format, free to copy, republish and distribute as you want. The goal of this website is to "liberate" government manuals from the dirty hands of CDROM selling mafia. :)

Statistician cracks code for lottery tickets
A typical assignment for Srivastava goes like this: A mining company has multiple samples from a potential gold mine. Each sample gives a different estimate of the amount of mineral underground. "My job is to make sense of those results," he says. "The numbers might seem random, as if the gold has just been scattered, but they're actually not random at all. There are fundamental geologic forces that created those numbers. If I know the forces, I can decipher the samples. I can figure out how much gold is underground."
Film of some ramblings of Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beafheart. LSD use optional. Guest appearance from David Lynch.
