Gun Crime Has Plunged, but Americans Think It's Up
"Women, people of color and the elderly were more likely to be gulled by anti-rights, prohibitionist disinformation than men, younger adults or white people."
dragonstaff's journal: The problems of being out of step with time
As an Australian on a site based in the USA, I find that I am Twelve hours or so behind you guys. ( This is being written at 10:33 pm on 08 /19/04 and I had to Think about the date 'cos we put the day first.) This delay means that my postings are usually put up after everyone else has got bored and quit for the work day so by the time they are seen ( US time) there are a whole lot of new things talk about.
dragonstaff's journal: Here we go again
Tommorrow is the third anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks and we are in the middle of an election campaign. Both major parties here are saying that they will not campaign tommorrow but this strikes me as blatant hypocrisy- they are saying that they are so sensitive that they wont insult each other out of respect for people that their attitudes killed!
dragonstaff's journal: The Mathematics of Success
A couple of years ago someone sent me the following. I thought some people here may appreciate it.
dragonstaff's journal: Get me to the polls on time.
With all the talk lately about voter registration and the problems that go along with the system currently in place, I have come to the conclusion that our system of compulsory voting is the ONLY way to ensure that EVERY eligible voter has his or her say.
We have just put our house on the market. This flat-roofed Contemporary design house cost us $91,000 three and a half years ago and the agent tells us that we should be able to get $150,000 or more for it as a developement property. The block is big enough at just over one eighth of an acre, to get two "villa" style or two storey townhouses on or even a really good single home with a bit of backyard. Of course, it could also be renovated if someone wanted to put the time, effort, and most especially money into doing it
dragonstaff's journal: Smartarse Kid
Yesterday (Saturday) I banned my seven year old from his computer for a week because he was beating his cordless mouse on the desk 'cos it wasn't working properly.( He wasn't pointing it at it's receiver ). I did this to try to encourage him ( for the tenth time, I am not a total arsehole.) to show some respect for expensive equipment and to discourage the use of violence as an answer to frustration.
dragonstaff's journal: MERRY CHRISTMAS
Just a note to wish you all a very MERRY Christmas ( excapt those ( any? ) who don't drink) and I hope yours is as good as mine.
Just finished watching the original 'Alien' on cable. When they kill the android it looks like the bukake scene of all time.
Well, the big day is finally here. Friday is moving day. This means that the computers will be shut down, disconnected, and packed away tomorrow night ( thursday). They will probably be set-up again by Sunday night, but it will take a couple of weeks for the broadband to be connected at the new place, so I will have no internet access 'til then.
dragonstaff's journal: Concert Time
Just got home after the George Thorogood 30th Anniversary concert. Best concert I have been to in a long time. Two hours of great blues ( and plenty of bourbon ) ( hic).
A thing to make
