VanishingNexus's journal: When it rains...

The last few weeks have been one of those periods that really tumbles one about on the insides. One of my mentors and good friends was out and about working around the church his family pastors. Just like any other day he set about making sure everything was in place for the congregation to arrive. He was outside and saw a stray 2x4 laying out in the parking lot. As he went to pick it up (or so I`ve heard) he slipped on ice and fell on his head... He lied there unable to move for over a half an hour in the cold watching cars drive by on the nearby road before a couple saw him and came to his aid. The hospital stated that he would more than likely be paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life... and he was. One of the greatest men this world never fully knew, one of the greatest fathers and husbands, a man that taught so many kids the lessons of life while coaching, that counselled so many others in their hardships so selflessly, one of those true kind of people you can scarcely find anymore died early last week. When it rains...

Barely coming to grips with that loss I went to work. Still shook by the sudden passing of a good man I was deep in thought. Not halfway through the day came word that one of my coworker's sons had passed suddenly. He was only 18. When it rains...

I consoled one of my coworkers who knew the mother well. I made my way through the corridors like a man half there my ghostly demeanor veiled under a mask of fortitude. I was stopped and asked if I could help print some thing. We have laser printers nearly everywhere but most are monochromatic. We only have a few color lasers that staff can access. A coworker told me of a little girl in second grade in our district that they we trying to make a birthday scrapbook for. Her birthday was coming up, but hospice was called in and she wasn`t going to make it. They needed help to print pictures of her good times with her classmates to help her smile in her last days. I gladly helped but felt shook inside.

Amidst it all there are the family problems. My wife and I are realizing how different we really are and are torn with figuring were to go from here. My brother in law and his girlfriend finally admitted they are on drugs and scared that they are a danger to their daughter. Ever since she was little we`ve tried to watch her as much as we can and she is like a daughter to us. She is so smart and so precious but stuck in a world were her parents are caught up. Now that they have admitted to their issues we are trying to shuffle things around to get them the help they need and to take care of the little one who cannot fully understand the storms of her life yet. When it rans ladies and gentleman... It pours.

When it pours. Well when it pours we have to keep standing in spite of the rain. We have to take stock of all that is good in our lives for strength to weather the storm. I don`t have answers to all that is going on in my head nor am I seeking it right now. I`m just trying to stand and be there for my friends and those whom I consider family through it all, because in the end they are who matter most. Ah well enough of this stuff for today.
