It's raining so hard here, the wind is RIPPING and HOWLING. It's crazy. Mudslides and closed highways and people being swept down creeks. The Sierra Nevada mtns just got the heaviest snowfall in 90 years. I live at the beach so we're not dealing with the snow, but the flooding is washing out roads and wrecking boats all over the place. Sunny California.....I just found out my convertible leaks, too. That's merely a small inconvenience, though; lives are being lost in this storm - more than a dozen homes just slid down a mountain between Santa Barbara and Ventura. People are dead. meep.

RoozleRose's journal: Death by Heartbreak - Another Casualty of War

Every Sunday our local newspaper prints brief biographies of all U.S. soldiers who have died in Iraq during the last month. These are compiled by the Associated Press, and I feel compelled to read them all because it makes these people real to me. They become not just another statistic but have names, talents, personalities, and families who loved them. The following is one of the most profoundly tragic stories I've seen to date, which appeared Sunday, January 9.
