I love my son. But he terrifies me.

I can't help but wonder how much of this is chemical imbalance and how much is coming from psychological empowering from the mother trying to actually reason with the little sh#t.
In my day dads and moms were forces of nature. You could understand most of what they did but you NEVER questioned them when they told you to do something without explanation.
You'd be told when/if they damned well felt like explaining.
It was ingrained from early childhood that to do otherwise ALWAYS meant pain and loss.
Had I ever threatened my mother with a knife, it would have resulted in me getting stomped so hard that what was left wouldn't be physically ABLE to carry out such a threat.
-And then Dad would take over.

My Dad was a child beating meeper, but we didn't go prey on others, EVER. Perhaps the beatings did us good, maybe the Lutherans made a difference...but I believe that knowing that if you mess up there WILL be consequences makes all the difference in the world. Kids don't have that now.

You get your self-esteem WHEN and IF you had something to contribute to society.

Part of being a parent is having to make tough decisions regarding your child, even if you think those decisions might break you.

If you look at how successful in the grand scheme of things therapy is for people like him, it's not good. The horrible truth is, that if she doesn't find some form of treatment for him, some therapy or some medication, she will NEVER have peace and could end up paying the price for it, along with her other young children. Does she believe it's going to get better as he gets older? Time is running out. He will grow older one day and she won't be a match for him. Her and her other kids will be at his mercy.

What I'm working around to is, that if he is threatening to kill himself, it is probably better to let him. It's really a sad situation to be in. But the truth of it is that with him gone, her and her kids will be at peace and able to live the rest of their lives as such. He may be family, but if his rationale is anything to regarde, he is pure evil and may very well grow one day to be a remorseless killer.

Correlation is not causation.

If your parents smacked you around, and then you did not grow up to shoot a bunch of people, those two facts are not necessarily related AT ALL, much less causally.

Instead you might -- just might -- be less broken in the brain to begin with, totally regardless of your upbringing.

I'm not arguing parenting styles, nor even disagreeing with the sentiment, but how stupid the argument itself is. To suggest that this kind of behavioral malfunction is necessarily related is idiotic.

If your children don't terrify you., then you haven't brought them up to be free thinkers, forward reachers, and you have failed as a parent.

Your kids should scare the meep out of you, just like you did with your folks. If they have any Ken about the world, they should be wiley as a coyote, sly as a snake.

Just be honest with them, because kids can see lies quicker than bad milk.

Indeed, Scare, as in outdo anything you ever could. When your kids do better than you ever could, you A) see your own mortality, and B) see them as your immortality.
