When I was a teen, we would take a banjo, mandolin, and guitar to the zoo (and drop acid), and play songs at every cage for the animals. The elephants & big cats responded most.

There ain't meep in the article that would lead to the conclusion that they communicate this way. Only that they make noise this way.
All animals make noise, the sound of a frog catching a fly with it's tongue is not communication.
Even a fair amount of the sounds humans make are not communication. Farting, for instance, is often done for purposes other than communication.
Disney has all but ruined peoples understanding of animals, and reason.

@tesco

You really are an idiot, aren't you?

Incidental noises,such as farts and the sound of a frog catching a fly with it's tongue, are not communication, any more than the sound of wind in the trees is communication, but I think it reasonable to assume that deliberate vocalizations are intended as a form of communication.

The kitten currently asleep on my lap is feeling happy,safe, and content, and she is telling me so by communicating those feelings to me. How? She is purring.

Communication does not have to be in words of one syllable, nor do those words have to be in the English language, although I suspect that both of those criteria are needed in order to communicate with you.

First off, while on acid, elephants showed obvious signs of communicating with us while we played music to them...

Oh, WE were on acid, not them...my mistake.

They DO use low frequency to communicate, however.

Some here would fail to qualify for Densa by filling the form out correctly.
I know haw elephants communicate. I also know that a cat communicates it's desire to be tossed in the pool by getting on the bed.
I was pointing out the writers failure to put anything in the article that backed up the title.
Far too many 'journalists' seem bent on convincing people that it is a career for the totally clueless.

@tesco

You would do it well, then.
