Christopher Hitchens is Dead

Now he's happy in heaven with Jesus.

I am ignorant of this individual. Can anybody recommend a representative piece of his work that might be findable on the web?

Nice quote in a decent David Frum article on HP.... "I once had the honor of sharing a debating platform with Christopher, on the same side thank God. It was like going into battle alongside the US Marine Corps."

What's all this 'good one' stuff? He was one of the chief cheerleaders for our invasion of Iraq, before and after the fact, and never apologized one meep iota. No surprise why Frum was such a fan.

I'm not saying he was evil, or untalented, or anything but brilliant, but his voice being added to the rah-rah for that disaster was one of the things that kept the political Left so totally silent in the critical year when we might've avoided the whole thing.

A great writer, but I wonder how many Iraqis and Americans are dead or permanently missing pieces of their bodies or families thanks to him.

It wasn't just him.
Lay the blame on fear, ignorance and politicians seeing a chance for money/glory/political power.
He, just like every other secularist, was scared by the way fundamentalism was spreading throughout the middle east.

Good one, as in someone that can articulate, understand, and defend all his points while launching an assault of equal ferocity. He was one of the good ones, regardless of his stance, pre-conversion days or after. In a dumbed down world filled with little substance or reason, he was one of the good ones because he still brought it all the to the table.

I prefer my men with a set of meep and brain to match.

Yes, Hitchens was a supporter of the IW2, but his reasons and argument was sound. Doesn't mean I agreed with it, but he at least offered a lucid, consistent, and unwavering defense of his idea.

As far as his single-handedness and involvement in the interia of war, I guess anyone that had anything to do with the war is equally responsible and damnable... except life just isn't that black and white. Just as those that were against it had little to do with ending the war or saving any lives.

He was a good man that would meep others with his ideas and words.

Yeah, I'm kinda shy on answers about why we'd be wanting to topple Saddam and Khadafi.
For all their evil, they kept the fundies at bay and provided a form of stability.

Chris was a hero of mine for his outspoken atheism, but @teh_blintz0r is 100% correct, and before I heard Hitchens views on atheism, I hated him for his his IW2 cheer-leading.
