Christ, I hate Texas. Why, that meal had to cost easily $70 to prepare! Clearly, these devious, about-to-be-murdered-by-the-state convicts are making a mockery of our system of justice, by eating large meals before being put to death the next day. The last meals totally ruin the deterrent effect of capital punishment. I bet there are people out there RIGHT NOW committing murders so they can get caught and have a big last meal before they're put to death.

Brian D. Price, the author of "Meals To Die For" called bullmeep on this in an interview the other day. He stated that since last meals in Texas have to be prepared from existing foodstuffs in the prison, it is impossible to actually produce that and most other requests. His example was if a condemned inmate asks for lobster, they get whatever frozen fish is available in the freezer.

I feel a need to expound.

I'm cool with capital punishment and last supper stuff. Indeed, I think capital punishment should be applied to several other crimes and final requests should include more useful and possibly entertaining options for execution.

Example off the top of my head: Those meepers that pull a U-turn during rush hour on busy streets causing a full stop of all traffic in both directions to accommodate the maneuver in complete disregard for the carefully calculated timing of lights that regulate traffic. Those meepers have inconvenienced uncountable others via chain reactions and taken time from all of them to save themselves the time and inconvenience of driving around the block again because they were being stupid a moment earlier and missed the place they wanted to go, and they know it.

Those people should be executed and they should be given the choice of building a sarcophagus on top of fukushima or rebuilding the chernobyl sarcophagus, or any other suicide missions that need doing.
