This is pretty generous. In my experience, if I'm "not in" now, it's taken as "meep you." Which seems to illuminate upon this irrational premise that the caller has about what has my attention at the moment; which is someone or something other than them that cannot possibly more urgent or important than they are.

My awareness and consideration of this goes a long way toward my decision to be "not in."
