HOBO

Why is it that when something has outlived its usefulness and is no longer any good for anything whatsoever some people will adamantly refuse to throw it out?

Language is unique and a true anomaly among human skills. As one who loves information, I would hate to see any language die out without being recorded and understood.

i have found that language is unreliable and limited. there is so much in life that can't be conveyed with words. so much is lost.

Not me.
I'm simple enough that plain english is more than sufficient.

linguistics as well as other aspects of human development are entirely dependent on whatever environment one is brought up in. a more extreme case is this, and yes it's entirely legit.

mostly people take a humanistic approach to life, like how people only view life in terms of themselves and their own experiences, thoughts and emotions. there's more than just that. is anyone familiar with the transhumanist movement/ideology? i have a sekret hope that someday there will be technology available to convey thoughts and, particularly, emotions, between two people. like, say, nanobots that register thoughts and feelings in your brain and can transmit these things to another. i hope i am conveying this in an understandable way :/

I used to wish there was a way to see the world (and myself) through other people's eyes.
Now I'm thinking that even though it would make your desires better known, it wouldn't explain WHY. Without turning everyone into some sort of hive mind, you can't explain people's motivations short of living their lives and gaining their habits and personalities.
A lot of the time people honestly don't know themselves, the reasoning behind the way they think the things they do.

i'd hope others had the strength of character not to blindly follow others. i could go off on a big meeping philosophical rant regarding this, but i'm not, because a) i'm tired and b) i have some things to do before sleeping.

something else, that dog girl in the above video, you can't tell me it wouldn't change your entire perspective on what it is to be human if you could view the world as she does, and feel her emotions. i'll probably get meeping raped for this, but i really respect solion's views on transhumanism, although i think it's pretty pretentious that he identifies himself as a furry. there's better ways to state your thoughts than to apply some label he knows he's going to be made fun of for. (solion i don't care that you're a furry, but i think you can understand where i'm coming from)

@sunny77

I spent a summer translating this from ancient Icelandic, (just to find to proper names of Thor's Goats), an "extinct language", that I use on a daily basis, for research.

Also, their names are TannsGriesnior (Tooth Grinder) & Tanngronjoior (ToothCracker).

Icelandic hasn't changed in 1K years and still have 100Ks of speakers who learn to read / write that in grammer school.

Modern Icelandic (like modern German) is in common use, Olde Icelandic (like the Elder Danish Futhark) is a bit more rare.
