It is much more than that. It is one thing for Egypt or Iran to shut their people out of the WORLD wide web, it is something entirely different for the US to attempt it.

Most of the Internet resides in the USA, one way or another, and if Obama hit the switch, the whole world would go down, unless that switch left so much still available that it was a complete waste of time having it.

I think shutting down the Internet would crush the US Economy. They would have to halt Wall Street trading, shutdown most banking, and shipping, and more...

The Internet may seem like it is all about Facebook and Linkswarm and Wikileaks, but really it is the backbone infrastructure of our entire country. Only old geezers and illiterates who don't know anything about technology still think it is a 'fad' and entirely frivolous.

PS: Anything that makes Wall Street unhappy will not come to pass.

The kill switch would only effect us common folk. The banksters would be exempt since they own the government and call the shots. meep, they'll be the ones with their fingers on the meepon.

I would hope that even Republicans realize how integrated and inseparable the internet is from commerce, utilities, transport, communications, manufacturing(what's left of it in the U.S.) , and p...p...p..porn.
