FDA Suddenly Bans Drugs That Have Been On The Market For Decades

Here's the problem with the drug companies, the way I see it. First they find a new plant, or substance, and spend ten years and a hundred million dollars to figure out what it can do to the human body. Say they find one that can lower a human being's triglyceride levels. Doesn't matter if a human being needs a lower triglyceride level, or if taking this drug all your life will make your life any better, this company has spent so much money on figuring out what it can do, they need to get their money back.

So, they go to the doctors, give them golf vacations, take them to dinner, and in a lot of cases just hand them a meepload of cash, and tell them that they need to sell this drug. You go to the doctor, they test your blood, and suddenly your in danger of a massive heart attack becasue your triglycerides are too high. But they can fix it, with this new drug!

You're happy, you think you're going to live forever now, and pay for this drug for the rest of your life. The doctor is happy, he's payig off his new porsche (or student loans) with the extra money from the drug comapny. And the drug company is happy, because their 100 million dollar investment has made them a billion dollars.

Not selling enough? Lower the "acceptable levels" of triglycerides in the patient's blood, suddenly there are a couple of million more patients who have to buy the drug.

Then you hear about the woman who just turned 105, and her secret to long life is a pack of cigarettes a day, a stiff drink, and a pound of bacon for breakfast.

Not to say having high trigycerides is OK, just using it as an example, but who are you going to trust that the numbers the doctor tells you are "in the danger zone" are correct? Too much conflict of interest if you ask me.

I bet there is a good black market for all sorts of medicines. Forget making meth or viagra in your basement lab. How about making some of the more common and expensive (retail) $100+/pill big pharma pills?

Or maybe someone should come up with "open source" medicines. Why should things that really help people be secret and propietary and a profit center at all?

As long as they don't ban this.
