My buddy Studebaker Dave made Damascus steel blades smelt in a coal-fired forge from black sand gathered from the beaches north of San Fran. The tricks with boric acid and rice hull ash to drive the oxygen out of the hammer welds were hard won. I still wear a Hammer of Thor he made me around my neck, always. Just when he was gaining a true mastery, he goes and beliies up on me, dang it! Very intense and difficult craft...not for meep.

That is a pretty bad-meep set of steak knives. :)
They're gonna be UBER EXPENSIVE too.
No way can you ask a reasonable price for a set of blades if you've got to buy 20lbs of refractory cement for every run.
-And where the meep is he getting the carbon content?
I understand the spark test, but what the meep was that printout from?
Plus this guy is spending a SHLOAD of time, energy and money getting the temper just right.
Notice how he instills a temper line(Hamon) by application of clay rather than the easier method of hardening the entire blade then placing it in a shallow pan of water and annealing the back.
(His method is safer, mind you, because the shrinkage caused by the process pulls the blade up in a curve and can sometimes snap the harder steel on the cutting edge)
This is something I wouldn't ever attempt unless someone was looking for a gift for a visiting dignitary or something.
