I don't get it.

Excessive hate for Apple products is just as loathsome as excessive love for them.

What I hate without guilt it the fact that this company is held aloft as a great American corporation, a sweetheart of the American technology business model, while in reality it is one of the lowliest of the sweatshop labor exploiters.

At first glance i would think this violates the Sherman Anti-Trust act insofar as it restrains interstate commerce by creating a monopoly for apple for the repair of their product. Automobile manufactures tried similar tactics and were held to be in violation of the Act. Additionally while putting on my republican hat (there we go)... Apple corporate behemoth run by liberal ideologues who want to destroy American jobs in the IT industry. The small town mom-and-pop computer repair shop will be put out of business my these tactics which serve only to restrict job growth in areas like technology where America needs to have increased growth in order to be able to compete with China in the field of advanced computer technologies so that we can pass on a safer country to our children.

Because as we all know, small town mom-and-pop computer repair shops are the bulwark of our economy, and they are really good at fixing phones and mp3 players.

It isn't so much about major repairs but simple things like replacing a damned recyclable battery without getting a $200 service fee.

Sony is also absolutely terrible about this sort of thing. For instance they charge $250 to replace the battery on my wife's ebook reader. They charge $67 for the battery if you order it from Sony service parts. You can buy the damned thing on Ebay for $10 if you know what to look for.
