The Search for Katsuhira's Tiger

Classical Japanese metalworker Ford Hallam attempts to recreate a missing sword guard. The result, and videos, are pretty unreal.

That was really amazing to watch.

Absolutely amazing amount of detail there. I can't understand why there was a need for such subtle (actually nearly invisible) tiger stripes to be inlaid(on the original), but far be it from me to question a master's decision.
Excellent find, Mundhra.

The subtle tiger stripes are there because they make it more awesome. Subtlety is essential to Art.

The subtle tiger stripes are there to make me feel inconsequential and powerless.

Noice.

I assume this is the sort of thing you do after you've established your name and have a steady following.
I can't imagine that even in those earlier centuries your average Cho Blow would spend more than a few seconds looking at your work on display.
I'd hate to lose potential customers by spending time on something they wouldn't be able to see, is all.

Stuff like that wasn't made for filthy proles.

Those smelly, uneducated worms. They didn't get fancy meep under their chrismus tree.

@spankerchief

I've been looking at your work with a JEWelers eye. It is nice. It is also lacking in the 'smooth' department. I guess I should probably update the Telemeep thread with this stuff.

Also, The mothermeeper in this link pays detail the ultimate attention.

I'm starting on my last two chests when my vacation starts(next month...?)
I'll hit 'em with some careful inlay and see if I can't get it right on the third try.

He makes my meep look like...Well meep.
This is the closest to fine metal inlay as I've gotten:

I see what he means about the power tools removing material too quickly and "taking charge".
I definitely could've used a jeweler's magnifier, some fine small chisels, TAKEN MY TIME and done a far better job than I did.

The theme was 'left'. You all lose.

That was some pretty awesome metal working, the similarity between the origional piece and the copy was near exact. Praise to mr. attention to detail.
