The worst thing is that there were no gas chambers at Buchenwald. Most of those people are dead of the tuberculosis and typhus epidemics that swept Europe in the last two years of the war -- and they were largely the result of our bombing water treatment and rail infrastructure throughout Germany and France.
Buchenwald was one of the camps that the Germans acknowledged existed. My grandfather was one of the permanent Red Cross workers in that camp, and he said the Germans were frantic for food, medicine, and clean water for the inmates. At the end, so many were dying that they had to resort to burning piles of corpses to stem the epidemic.

Do you mean to tell me that the Germans didn't want all of those Jews to suffer and die?
Do tell Grandfathers story, meep. This are interest.

The holocaust is just a made up story propagated by Zionist extremists to sully the name of poor Dr. Mendel who was actually a peace loving pediatrician. My grampa worked at Auschwitz and he told me all those meep Jews commited suicide to give the Nazi's a bad name. Bad Jews.

Opening Soon... teh_blintz0r's psuedo-death-camp. Here you will find prisoners confused as their captors are trying to kill them, while simultaneously appear to be helping them with feigned attempts of nourishing their bodies.
Being a work camp that exterminated its prisoners when they were no longer an asset isn't technically an extermination camp, but ironically the results are the same, except you lend a hand in the killing yourself.
So, my heart goes out to those that really cared about these prisoners (perhaps your Grandpappy) and a curse on the souls and families of those that didn't.

Weren't many Jews in Buchenwald until the very end of the war, when they received most of the surviving populations of Auschwitz-Birkenau and Treblinka and the like. Until then, it was a camp for political prisoners, Russian POWs, religious prisoners, and plain old criminals. They hanged hundreds of inmates, and shot thousands, since the punishment for most offenses was death.
Like I said, Buchenwald was one of the camps the Nazis told the world about. No gas chambers. The extermination camps were all in Poland, and were top-secret until the Russians overran them.
Almost all the deaths in Buchenwald were in the last year of the war, when our bombing had just totally destroyed German water treatment and transport, and all the surviving inmates from Auschwitz were then 'evacuated' there. Sudden massive overcrowding + not enough food to go around + no clean drinking water = massive typhus and tuberculosis epidemics that the Nazis were actually begging the Red Cross to help stop.

No, shut up and put Grandpa on. I already have access to Wikipedia. Your Wiki links are redundant. What I don't have is access to your Grandpa.
You do.
Redeem yourself by presenting video (a camphone will suffice) footage of Grandpa telling linkswarm about what he saw as a permanent Red Cross worker at Buchenwald.

The nazis were begging for red cross help because their tools were falling over dead. They didn't care for these people, they just cared for what the loss of these people represented to their work output quotas. The Nazis, either in uniform or street clothes, deserve the painful afterlife or corpse defilement that is coming their way.

Well, since my grandfather's been dead for 16 years, it'll be difficult for him to tell the story. It's true, though -- Buchenwald was not an extermination camp. 90% of the deaths there were in the last year of the war, from the massive typhus and tuberculosis epidemics that swept Europe after we destroyed its rail transport, sewage, and water treatment infrastructure.
I'm not trying to defend the frigging Nazis, for God's sake. I'm saying that it's a bitter historical irony that tens of thousands of inmates, including evacuees who'd manage to survive Auschwitz, ended up dying in penal camps like Buchenwald, where the Nazis actually weren't trying to exterminate the population, because of what had to be done by the good guys to liberate Europe.
Those poor meepers.
