Interesting. I thought that back in the day Federalists, for the most part, were the Republicans; opposing anti-Federalists who were the Democrats.

More interesting is how Republicans are now considered to be the 'populists' opposing the influence an aristocracy of 'elite' members of society, when back in the day the whole point of contention between Hamiltonian Federalists (republicans) and Jeffersonian anti-Federalists (democrats) was the struggle between consolidating political power to establish a strong national identity with potent centralized powers in the hands of the well educated upper-classes, vs leaving political power more broadly distributed among (and exercised by) the People in deference to the principle of the sovereignty of the individual, independent of social, economic or educational class.

In any case, the source of the confusion--regardless of who is experiencing it--is pretty clear; there is no compelling distinction to be made between Republican, Democratic, Liberal, or Conservative politics (or their respective party organizations) today. The salient distinctions to be made regard the validity and intrusive nature of Authoritarianism in government; and frankly, all of the above are primarily concerned with advancing Authoritarianism.

I think it's been sufficiently well established that this LOki finds great satisfaction in all things that 'strike a blow against "the elected politicians who have grand plans of ruling every facet of America," and finds very little troubling about any valid act that 'would essentially delegitimize virtually every act of the federal government since 1819.' I just don't think this 13th Amendment business has any legs--and not just because the Republican and Democratic precedents regarding the 2nd Amendment establish how well our Authoritarian politicians respect our rights, let alone the power constraining provisions of the Constitution.
