Keep in mind, the subject isn't how many people are using the kin, but how many we're sold.
Microsoft corporate campus in Redmond has over 30000 employees, worldwide, 93 000 in 100 countries. Now how many of those MS employees own a Kin? Assuming 10% of them support their own product ( I would assume MS gave every one of their employee's a kin for promotional and beta testing purposes). That amounts to about 9000 phones owned by employees. Maybe 8000 we're using facebook that day..

Anyone with half a clue saw that Ballmer was running MS into the ground 5 years ago with his freakish antics and ridiculous business strategies (Vista anyone?). The dumb meeper spent a billion dollars on a facebook phone for kids and timed its release to just before the 4G avalanche ./getfired

SON OF A meep. I wanted this to be true so bad but I gave it til Day 2 to get corrected and thought it was good to go by this morning.
500 is such a deliciously tiny, stupid, eat-my-meeping-meep-microsoft number.
Still, 8000 isn't much better: Apple sold 6.1 million of the original iPhone in 5 quarters.

While the '500 units sold' rumor may not be true, I was ready to believe. I just went phone shopping a few weeks ago and upon seeing the kin can distinctly remember thinking 'Who the meep would buy this thing?' The answer 'about 500 dumb meep' sounded pretty reasonable.
