Lots And Lots Of Scifi And Fantasy Ebooks

A ton of ebooks here. Warning: the downloads are slow and I think there is a limit to how many you can DL in one day. Still pretty cool, though.

Stranger in a strange land, starship trooper, time enough for love, and the cat who walked through walls are all great books.

Heinlein's Have Space Suit-Will Travel was the first scifi book I ever read. Loved it.

I also loved everything thing that Asimov ever did. He has some great short stories. See: Nightfall and The Last Question. His autobiographies were fun to read, too.

Hoyaguru: I used Calibre to convert my entire ebook collection (pdfs, txt, etc) to ePub format (same format that Kindle uses) for my iPad. It's super easy to use, it's free, and it's meeping AWESOME.

With PDFs you have to meep around with the settings a bit so that a 300 page book doesn't explode into a 900 page monster with 600 blank pages, but it is totally worth the minuscule effort.

I liked 'The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress'.

And her meep is a fearful master.

Clavis, thanks for the tip. Turns out I have read some Heinlein back in the day, Stranger in a Strange Land, and Starship Troopers. I guess I'll just download them all, and get to them someday.

Luff.

Another suggestion: Dresden Files and Codex Alera

So... I never read past the first Dune book. Is it worth going further?

I just bought 3 books last month at the local Barnes and Nobles, and they cost me 8 bucks apiece, for normal sized paperbacks. Going by this, I've downloaded so far at least $8000 worth of free books (and I'm still downloading), thanks to saltpeter, and I have enough books to read for the next several years, if not the next decade. As thanks, I'd like to buy saltpeter 6 months worth of subscription for LinkSwarm (it would be more, but I got laid off last month). How does one go about paying for a subscription for someone else?

I'm guessing a lot of people out here have saved a meepload of money because of this link, maybe we could all pitch in and hook saltpeter up. Just a thought...

hoyaguru: How does one go about paying for a subscription for someone else?

One messages me and gets the secrets in return. One day, I hope to return to a more obvious 'go click the link that you see over there' system. This will take some fancy flashdancing on my part first though.

I'm guessing you don't read very much. I can go through a good novel in one or two days, but as expensive as they are now, it would cost a fortune to pay for enough books to keep me reading. This link is like getting a new library for free, I haven't even heard of a lot of these authors, and I'm guessing a lot of them are going to be as good as the ones they are listed next to that I do know.

I don't read very fast, still getting used to having to wear glasses, so no I don't consume books like some, but I read plenty. Anybody got cluez on preferred settings for reading online? I'd rather pick up a book than read a whole novel onscreen. Oh, and; the LIBARY is free.

^ Check out the dictionary section.
