While living in Spain, my favorite 'Chinglish' was in Chinese restaurants, where they translated the Chinese dishes into Spanish, and then the Spanish into English. Usually there was no way to know what you were getting until it got to your table. One of my favorites was 'Ants Crawling Up and Down the Tree'.

The problem is that most Chinese dishes have weird names that have nothing to do with the dish to begin with; for example, there is a fried fruit pastry that translates roughly to 'house full of gold and fortune' and thats a translation from someone who actually knows both languages.

Thanks, that clears up a lot of meep I have stored against chinese food, and the obvious fail contained in the misfortunate naming/thought process of the same people who name/think that way. I'm not sure if there is any silver lining here. I just hope that bimeepual speakers such as yourself help one side scratch the back of the other.
