The more I think about this, the more it sucks. Giving the tea party more ammo to blame liberals for their own failures really will make them easier to like-minded people to stomach.

The group is taking Levin's plan -- and the possibility of other infiltrators -- pretty seriously, and is planning to point out and confront anyone with a 'racist or offensive' sign at a rally on Thursday.

Great, so now they've got a partisan reason to self-police, and not just a public-relations one. Well, thanks for making them actually clean up their act, you meeping spoilsport.

Also, I can't help but notice whoever wrote this article uses the same weighted language Fox News does ('small panic', 'scariest man in the tea party universe', 'getting nervous'). I hadn't notice that on a TPM site before, but it sucks.

I don't like that it will give them a scapegoat to point at and blame anything bad or crazy or violent or misspelled on but if they can get enough people laughing at them I think it could make them crawl back under their rocks.
When you are trying to be serious and people are laughing uncontrollably at you it kind of leaves you with no viable options but retreat. Not sure how effective these guys would be toward that end, but that seems to be their motivation.

Yeah, but tea partiers seem to have the same way of thinking as Republicans -- I think of them as fed-up Republicans (and that faux-political segment of the population that just puts its faith into whatever it has most recently heard uttered with conviction by an approved authority figure that suggests sympathy with their particular mundane plight) with quadruple the dose of self-justifying quotidian outrage. Like reptiles, they don't retreat in the face of opposition because every struggle immediately escalates in significance to a life-or-death battle for 'blood and treasure' or 'our way of life' or 'our future children's safety and pursuit of happiness' or whatever mothers-milk soundbite is currently serving as philosophy to their animalistic back-brain urges. So, like Republicans, they won't get confused and disband; they'll double down in ideological fervor, design sniff tests and pillory those who don't pass.

The way you defeat the tea party, I'd think, is to continue letting it seduce the stupidest 40% of the populace into it[1], then let them prove themselves dangerously retarded to the remaining 60%. I fear this kind of development makes that proof weak.

I kind of agree with vasudeva on this one. With this type of 'infiltration' all you accomplish is an excuse clause for the morons. Every time a racist or misspelled idiot sign hits the news, they'll claim it was a dirty democrat and plaster it all over FOX news to prove how civil and reasonable they are and how insidious the enemy, liberal smeep are.

On the other hand, this story could easily have been dreamed up by a Tea Party insider who's only intent is to create that excuse clause to point to later as the retards are filmed raising their idiot signs. I mean, there has to be a few individuals within the Tea Party movement that are smart enough to recognize the fact that their movement is sucking the smeep off of the bottom of America's genetic petri dish... How better to distance the movement from their idiocy than to set up a claim that they're just infiltrators trying to make us look bad? - It's a pretty good way of pretending the morons aren't a part of the movement while at the same time not offending them and turning them away. Then they can have their turn out numbers and build an excuse in for every 'retard with a sign' pic that pops up in the media.

On the plus side, this will work the paranoia that tea-baggers typically display so much of, against themselves. I'd love to see one tea-bagger accuse another actual tea bagger of being an infiltrator because that person is yelling something stupid or carrying a stupid sign. Hilarity is sure to ensue.

One thing is certain: I will be glued to my tv's and internets to watch this meep play out tomorrow. I'm treating the taxday protests like a Superbowl event where the competition is sure to be full of retardeds who will all lose.

Dumb mothermeeps riding around with star-spangled cowboy hats on like Dolly Parton in some mid-70s cracker-meep dipmeep hoss movie, and some other dumbmeeps were proudly waving the American flag upside down... which, hysteria aside -- because I suspect the intent of the phrase 'distress signal' doesn't intersect with 'i'm being a big babypants about some policies I don't understand but sure hate' -- goes against the federal flag code, and was cheerfully defended as freedom of speech by the ACLU, a fact I find lolsome.

Montebello High School in California You will not see this heart-stopping photo on the front page of the NY Times, nor on the lead story of the major news networks. The protestors at Montebello High School took the American flag off the school's flag pole and hung it upside down while putting up the Mexican flag over it.(scary flag pictures inserted here)

I predict this stunt will be the nail in the coffin of any guest-worker/ amnesty plan on the table in Washington ... The image of the American flag subsumed to another and turned upside down on American soil is already spreading on Internet forums and via e-mail.

While offensive to many including myself, this act is protected by our Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States of America... which I support 100% as the only true laws of our country. Our freedom of speech isn't something that exists only for us patriotic Americans. It exists for all Americans regardless of race or for how many generations they have lived here.

Like it or not it's clearly defined in the very domeepents that make this country great and I took an oath as American soldier to defend and protect those domeepents and the laws they define in order to protect the freedoms of my fellow Americans.

Being American means being free to voice dissent and that freedom is guaranteed for all Americans and MUST be protected at all costs. Whether or not we like what is being said is irrelevant, we can't have it both ways.
