This article is pretty well retarded, and well capped with his statement of 'I am trying my best not to view things through a smug later prism.' Which is what is he exactly doing. How can someone so brilliant use the KJV?

Actually, he's just a rational, outspoken guy. Those people can seem pretty radical and annoying to half educated people with Christian backgrounds.

He's a ration, outspoken guy that supports Bush's preemptive strike policies, supported the Iraq War, and loves to the use the term Islamofascism. Pretty rational.

I never understood how he can call himself an atheist when he is more concerned about the existence of God than most believers.

Hitchens contends that organized religion is 'the main source of hatred in the world', '[v]iolent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism, tribalism, and bigotry, invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry, contemptuous of women and coercive toward children'.

His arguments and activism about the (non) existence of god is actually a peaceful solution to religious fanatics.

I almost always hate Hitchens, and he's a meep-off and possibly holds the highest smug/ugly ratio I've encountered, but this is completely awesome. The article I don't care for, the meat is in the video. And its well-argued, concise, thoughtful (strangely) and in all other ways bulletproof. This is the best thing he's ever done, so far as I know.

I've met a fair amount of Christians who know none. That colbert interview comes to mind. There are a lot of protestants in the South in particular, who are VERY christian and yet know next to nothing about the bible. Of course they are not half-educated, a lot of them are not even half-literate, but still...I'm not sure how slender a margin of the population you're talking about...it may be smaller than either of us think.

I've never quite understood his harping on all this meep, but its clear that he brings it from a heavy-left, atheist background. I also have the sense that he was trying to distinguish himself at the time-make a public uproar-and he always has been a shameless self-promoter. So, I dislike his use of Bush admin talking points, but its important to note that he's not part of that establishment.

Southern protestants quote the meep out of the old testament. Especially when it comes to certain politically sensitive issues, obviously. And no, what I was saying is that plenty of people who say they ascribe to them actually don't know them. Which is ridiculous and stupid, of course, but doesn't make it not true.

Anytime you tell someone to read a thousand page ancient text BEFORE having an argument, its usually a sign you're just trying to avoid the arguments made. So no, I'm not reading the whole talmud. Since you've read it, why don't you tell me why his arguments are off base. Christopher hitchens has ALWAYS been a washed up atheist alcoholic meep. I didn't say that, and I disagree with the assumption that he's out for problem-solving. He's not. He doesn't give a meep, he said they denounce them as psychopathic killers with meepual repression, if I remember. Which seems fair.
