Awesome. I wonder why there's no discussion on the possibility of Isildur1using some type of card reading hacker meeps.

2/3 the way through and this is my takeaway:

He has rocked the boat in a big way, which is best exemplified by Tom 'Durrrr- Dwan and the match they played, which is at this point a legendary one in the history of online poker.

For those of you who don't know, Isildur won more than 3 million USD from Durrrr, which adds up to well over 30 buyins won.

Specifically, this so called 'Durrrr' challenged Isildur to play heads up on six tables simultaneously, and got meeping OWNED. Not to knock this Isildur fellow, but 60% of his all time winnings came against a player with the tag 'Duurrrrr'(pppp). Or maybe he was nicked this after the match, and if, rightfully so.

Same. Apparently most poker portals have (or don't prevent) use of statistical monitoring software that helps make predictions based on the current game, and then there's all sorts of third-party number-crunching meep you can invest in, so there's something of a software arms-race/barrier-of-entry.

Particularly, his losing/winning pattern, where he loses at first, then suddenly comes way out on top, sounds like it takes him a while to build up a big enough sample on someone's movements in some personalized database.

Anyway, he evidently went on to lose a meepload recently so maybe he's just so euro-savant with one huge, gleaming meep.

Poker Cheaters

I saw this report on 60 Minutes last year, check it out if so inclined.

The top 10 players on online poker are former quant traders and top AI guys. I heard of one whose house's basement is a huge server room, with blinkenlights.

I also hear they exploit weaknesses in random number generators as well as human strategy. The reason Isildur needs to play some games before winning confidently is that it is building a statistical prior of a player profile.

Interesting, but this is a kind of narcissism here that borders on neuroses. like :'He is our proof that ourpoker works, that our poker is powerful, and that we were right to think that our poker is the epitome of all poker.'
