uh huh.. you assume I have some kind of admiration for him, wotak. You're wrong. Nor do I find any for fanaticism of any sort, especially political or religious. It's unfortunate they didn't pop the guy, but now we might find his reasoning for it, and scale back some obvious wrong that helped to set him off, if they're real injustices. These things are catalysts for change, occasionally good change....That said, I don't actually give much of a meep about most humans I've never met, and never will, and the same goes for quite few folks I DO know. I doubt you're any different, beyond your circle of friends and family, and a display of social responsibility. There's too many lemmings, and too many tyrants to make us a worthwhile species.

'you assume I have some kind of admiration for him, wotak. You're wrong.'

No, I didn't assume anything.

You stated: 'meeper was good at wielding a weapon effectively'

To which I responded: 'shooting unarmed people doesn't require much skill even if they are soldiers.'

I never assumed you admired him, I just disagreed with your statement. I've read your statement several times and I don't think that anyone can assume you admire this individual from that sentence... but on the other hand, it is an incorrect statement. A 10 year old with 2 hours of training could kill a room full of unarmed men with an M16. That didn't take any skill or proficiency whatsoever. It simply took a fanatical mind, an extremely cowardly mindset and a retarded conceptual grasp of right and wrong.

every report i've read so far seems to be downplaying the fact he was a muslim, or that he was one of the 'allah is love' type muslims, not the 'kill all non-muslims' type.

could it be, he was just a nut, who was also religious? The two do go hand in hand generally though. I've not seen any reports yet that say he was ulating all over the place with a nappyrag on his head shouting death to infidels, or stuff to that effect.

'could it be, he was just a nut, who was also religious? '

Yes, of course there is.

There is this, though

...and this.

There is also this.

The funny thing is, the original RAWSTORY piece that I linked to also said that he'd screamed 'Allahu Akbar' before the shooting but it seems to have been edited out. I also can't find any 'reputable' news source reporting on it at this time even though CBS made the original claim, as far as I know.

I'm prone to believe that he did but perhaps major media has been asked not to highlight it?

Stranger things have happened in this country, I guess. This does stink of censorship, though.

My feet are the pussays.

I just think it's odd that this was reported and then edited out but no retractions have been issued regarding this highly controversial issue.

I mean, if the guy was screaming 'Allahu Akbar' it would be rather hard for our government to deny that this was indeed an act of radical Islamic 'terrorism'.

As it stands, it was an act of terrorism, as far as I'm concerned. He was reported to be a devout follower of Islam by his own Mother. His motives so far seem to be to kill US soldiers before they could kill Afghans, which shows an alliance with their cause, at least emotionally.

I just think it's a bit odd that it was reported and not officially retracted. It makes it look a bit out of the ordinary.

Now, stop meeping my feet.

The information released to reporters on this thing has been meeped up from the start. Originally both the defective major and the first responder who pumped four rounds into him were reported as having been killed. I think it was at least a couple of hours before that got straightened out. We could speculate that the powers that be were expecting the female police officer to die and then would put a fifth round just above the majors nose. Wild speculation, but maybe I can wish it true.

As I understand it, the White House has been granted very broad powers over this nation during a terrorist threat or terrorist attack. This attack easily qualifies as 'terrorist' in nature when you consider that even making verbal threats of violence can be considered a terrorist act under the Patriot Act.

It doesn't take a huge stretch of the imagination to consider that the White House would like the terrorist aspect of this crime downplayed in the media while an historic healthcare vote is being held. I think the Patriot Act gives it the power to do so, doesn't it?

The information released to reporters on this thing has been meeped up from the start.

The RAW piece that I submitted seems not to have changed other than the updates to status and the strange omission of the 'Allahu Akbar' quote. Other than that, it reads the same as when I submitted it, which was Friday night, IIRC.

I don't find it odd that the quote in question could have been misreported and then redacted. I just find it odd that nobody has printed a retraction and instead just quietly edited out the quote and pretended it was never made.

If anyone can find a CBS retraction regarding the 'Allahu Akbar' quote, please spill a link to it here. Granted, I haven't read the news yet this morning, but I haven't found any retractions yet.

I suppose this is just semantics, but I figure you can't call killing strangers an act of terrorism unless the goal is to strike fear into people so they will or won't do something you want - otherwise it's just mass murder.

Even if a person wants to instill fear into a populace on behalf of a recognized terrorist organization, if they just go out and do it without ever making contact with anyone in that organization, I'd be more comfortable calling them nuttermeepers.
