Using Amazon EC2 To Thwart Crappy Internal IT Services

Nice touch that he works in risk management while backing up corporate data (assuming) onto Amazon via Jungle Disk. OK, its encrypted, OK its probably swimming in a sea on other data, but its OUT OF THE meepING COMPANY AND ONTO TO ANOTHER CORPORATE SERVER/INTRANETS.

Sometimes clever and stupid effectively co-exist.

Also, 'I can't really do my job well without [THING X]' delivered sensibly has never failed me. This guy is either afraid to deliver unhappy messages to his boss or is in a thoroughly dysfunctional workplace.

Lastly, I'm the last person to profess that any information is unobtainable. If someone is gunning for your data, give them enough time, and I bet they will get it.

What this guy is doing is just reducing that time to steal by cirmeepventing the roadblocks that IT departments, in good faith and with good intentions, have placed. The simplistic idea that IT depts/managers/etc. are making decisions solely for personal control of their IT palaces is just plain absurd, short-sighted, fictional, dangerous, and wrong. Not that IT doesn't have self-preservation in mind when they lay down the blocks, they also realize that not laying these blocks would be unprofessional and unethical, ultimately hurting the company far more than them personally.

Anyway, I really hope this tool gets whats coming to him.... or that someone total just steals his meep at some point, after being undermind by a friend or employee.

When Obama's socialist agenda unfolds your precious data will belong to the people and you IT meeps will all be out of a job. I suggest raising chickens.

Until then, us IT folks will be laying in beds of money, burning it for fuel (meep, its too hard to chop wood), and enslave your children (for whatever we want). Lastly, we will be buying plenty of munitions to fend off ourselves from the unwashed, untechnical masses that use the 'puters for nothing but streaming porn.
