Well, the bible is a collection of snippets from a bunch of other writings and scrolls and a variety of authors. The original editors selected with some political bias. Re-writing the bible is a time honored tradition.

I may have an inaccurate understanding of this but I have always heard the argument by xtians that the bible is infallible: the profits, authors, and translators have always been divinely inspired and were incapable of mistranslation or misunderstanding. Now a group says the bible has been mistranslated. Isn't this undermining one of the religions' main props? I suppose the new neocon translation movement shoud be applauded with great fury.

No, that's fundamentalism, which is one way of a zillion of interpreting the Bible.

Fundamentalists are great, because there are so many passages of the Good Book with contradict other passages. So it takes mental gymnastics to believe in that way.
