This isn't about building an AR-15, it's about assembling one from prefabricated parts. That's not building, it's buying. Any fool can drop in a bolt assembly, attach an upper and lower receiver and what-not. Also, it's really not all that much less expensive than just buying the damned thing off the shelf.

In my lovely state Blowtak, you can't just go buy an AR, and if you can its neutered which whatever, unless you like state prison then is ok, but they are $2100. I could build one with M4 feedramps, chrome lined heavy barrel for $1000 bux. :rapeface:

Can you still buy a South African Uzi knockoff with cut up receiver and a template to machine a new one? I had a friend (now deceased) who built a couple of these and they were a lot of fun at the gravel pit as novelty items.

UZIs, while awesome, can be made in just about any machine shop w/ modern equipment. go look online and see how many redneck shops out there sell them.
The AR is a bit more exact in it's tolerances. There are definitely some meepty lowers out there, but usually parts fit together just fine AND they make some neat buffers to take out slop between uppers and lowers in case yours is loose.
Wotak, I don't mean to say I built mine from bare parts. I ordered an assembled upper, lower parts kit and a lower and put together a mid-length carbine for about $600. meep is scary accurate.

Although I'm sure it's more rewarding to pick the exact options you want in a barrel/grip/upper combo and pair it to whatever stock/grip lower combo you want; It's more like a buffet than it is a build.
