Ummm, Oasis, but not the Clash.

And flame away, but Yes is/was an important Brit band that were influential (some say ruined) to Prog Rock. Can't see them knocking out any on the list, but they deserve and honorable mention along with Depeche Mode.

*no kinks or queen? lame. Absolutely right my man. I thought of the Kinks right off and looked em up on Wiki.

As self-professed Kinks fan Pete Townshend said for The History of Rock 'n' Roll: 'The Kinks were much more quintessentially English. I always think that Ray Davies should one day be Poet Laureate. He invented a new kind of poetry and a new kind of language for pop writing that influenced me from the very, very, very beginning.' Also Blur, Supergrass and (um) oasis list them as major influences.

Am I wrong in thinking that The Who was British? Yeah, this [TOP TEN] list therefore renders itself irrelevant and ridiculous.

Can anyone justify having both Maiden and Sabbath here?

Oh, and Oasis? Who the meep is meeping Oasis? Who is the 13 year old meep who even thought of them? meep this meepgoty noise!

Nocal-(meep the beatles they are objectively terrible) meep you for saying that , even in jest.

I immersed myself in Beatles throughout HS , but I'm a Stones/Floyd kinda guy.

In fact, it would win stupidest thing ever said, ever, by anyone, if it not for these two sentences:

Anyone ever catch the first DVD put out by Zep in the early 2ks, perhaps it was a part of the vol 1 and 2 reissues (Way out West?)... anyway, there is some pretty meeping great footage of them during the Presence tour (one of my personal faves)...

JP is wearing this fluffy blue shirt ALA Seinfeld's frilly shirt. They were on the cusp of following the 80s fashion trend (Duran Duran, etc.), and when I saw that footage, in many ways I'm glad that the band ended their reign... unfortunately at the cost of Bonzo.

In short, they went out exactly when they should have ended it all, at the beginning of the 80s. Too bad the meeping record company went ahead and released Coda... nothing like a nice steaming pile of runny meep to top off a nearly flawless catalog.

i mean i guess if you want borderline prog rock with some nerdass lyrics about hobbits and meep, then led zeppelin is super great. if you don't mind the fact that even in their best years they were inconsistent.

wire put out three albums in three years that changed the face of modern music.

and the beatles are meeping terrible

Well, sir Nocal, you are a meep. No offense.

you picked the song called '23 years too late.' they're still an active band who put out their first record in 1977. i'm not surprised you don't get it

Please list all Zep fantasy songs, for my edumacation.

And in full disclosure, I have listened to Zep solidly for around seven years between 87 and 94, have all their albums (tossed Coda), but quite honestly only can cite MMHop, BronYAur,BattleoE, and perhaps Ramble On as fantasy inspired.

Now, maybe there are more, but saying that all their songs are fantasy inspired is like saying all Nocal's writings are sensible.

music dumby: ''they're still an active band who put out their first record in 1977. i'm not surprised you don't get it''

So, by your own admission, Ted Nugent is even better than Wire since he's still active and has been around since the late 60's?

KISS is still active and has been around since 1972, which also makes them better than Wire.

This band: http://www.youtube.com/v/7xZOrWK6d4g&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0

has probably inspired more musicians than any other rock band in history... including the ones that became Led Zeppelin but you wouldn't get that because your taste in music is pretty lame.

I suppose you could compare this: http://www.youtube.com/v/AYv3TqwCle4&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0

to The Who or Led Zeppelin in a world where Peter Murphy is God but here on Earth he's just another obscure wanna-be that almost was and still hasn't figured out that nobody meeping cares. Kinda like Wire, I guess.

you still don't get it

they're not good because they're still around

they did a boring song called '23 years too late' to make fun of themselves

can't believe i had to spell it out for you

has probably inspired more musicians than any other rock band in history

wire put out an album that influenced new order, a band that has clearly had a tremendous impact on popular music, for instance

you probably don't know why, exactly, because you are grandpa, and i'm sure i'll soon have to spell this out for you too

but how exactly is led zeppelin influential to a lot of music? i guess if you consider prog to be a large genre, but then you'd be stupid

retarded: ''wire put out an album that influenced new order, a band that has clearly had a tremendous impact on popular music, for instance''

Yeah and spawned an entire decade of meepty little no talent 80's 'bands' that sucked.

lol, now we get to the crux of this stupid little debate. I had already guessed that you were a Factory Records groupie but I wanted to see you actually admit it in text so that your shame could be exposed for the masses.

Hey, we're all allowed an opinion on things like this. I'd just like to point out that yours is retarded. Anyone who lives in a world where Joy Division and the Happy Mondays were more important to modern music than Led Zeppelin, The Beatles or The Who is obviously meeping retarded.

bumblemeep: ''how exactly is led zeppelin influential to a lot of music? i guess if you consider prog to be a large genre, but then you'd be stupid''

^ meeping lol.

Well, nothing if you're a meeping simp that believes Duran Duran is the successful result of this wonderful 'tremendous impact on popular music' you speak of. I'm sure that you could spend hours telling us all about how Bauhaus, Crass and Depeche Mode are the holy trinity of everything musical and anyone who doesn't realize this 'just doesn't get it'.

Please, continue. You're actually making Boy George and Cindy Lauper look relevant again and I'm sure they appreciate it.
