This is America. You can buy any gun your little heart desires, for cash, with absolutely no paper trail. Many times you'll buy them from NRA members. Go figure.

Shotguns can be had for a little as $15 in my area and almost everyone has an extra one to sell.

I can see that you are probably a member of .00001% who has an intrinsic understanding why this LOki refuses to join the NRA.

Scenario: The government has records of you purchasing a .357 magnum.

A murder is committed and a spent .38 casing is discovered at the scene.(A .38 will fire from a .357)

You are a suspect.

The government still has to find the gun, match ballistics, prove that you were at the scene, prove that you actually were the gunman(and didn't just lose custody of the weapon), etc, etc. It's amazingly hard to be convicted of anything if you lawyer up immediately and tell them nothing.
