We Are All meeped Say Climate Scientists

If we stop emissions now, global warming will continue for 1,000 years.

Decider: Admin

Jesus christ. We're all gonna die. Everyone with a Ph.D. is always correct in their findings, and they always tell the truth no matter how much lying will help their careers.

Please.

putting out solid research that questions any widely regarded scientific theories is often very, very well rewarded

i mean, dudes have built long careers on one groundbreaking piece of work

strikes me like maybe you kind of don't know what you're talking about perhaps??

CFCs, which is the biggest destroyer of ozone, lasts for about a thousand years. By the time they banned it there was 30+ years of it in the atmosphere, with still more coming from third world countries, due to its cheap and effective nature.

First, mofo, you don't know meep. You're just regurgitating stuff you heard somewhere else.

Second, Nocal, it strike me that you don't know what I'm talking about. The above sarcasm was supposed to convey the idea that, taking for granted what you just said, scientists will often (and I mean often) fudge their research to make it seem grounbreaking and original, specifically to boost their careers, or because they only get paid for certain results. These people only keep their jobs if they can bring in grants.

Have you noticed that, since the late nineties, the scientists that are getting the most attention are the ones that are telling us that everything is worse than we thought? That 'worse' has gotten worse, and worse, and worse, because a very easy way to get attention is to publish something exactly like this article. So yes, Wotak, this is a career-booster.

ya mofo! you don't know meep!

All of you are full of meep. There are only TWO unarguable facts: atoms, and the space between them.

Everything else is just opinion.

Richard_Parker, I dig your healthy skepticism, and I'm willing to believe some professors do silly meep to get grant funding. But, fudging your research is not a safe way of going about it.

Scientists can't just claim something outlandish for publicity without empirical evidence and thorough research to back up said claims.

The scientific community tends to descend on meepty scientists who do poor work and devours them at the first sign of weakness. Then they tell everyone, and that scientist loses all credibility - and funding.

The media tend to blow meep out of proportion and sensationalize early scientific findings. But, given this information comes from NPR reporting on NOAA, The National Academy of Sciences and Princeton University...it seems worth noting.

Hey thanks for trying to help fellas. We all meeping knew we were in deep meep already.

Who gives a meep...

Lownotes, I do think it's worth noting, as long as you note all the other studies published in established journals as well, rather than just the doom and gloom ones. Too many people fall into the trap of only reading what reenforces the ideas they already have. I am just reacting to the apparent sympathy toward one side of this debate on these boards. I suppose what I really mean to say is, 'Stop being political zombies, research your meep seriously or shut the meep up.' It is widely accepted among the scientific community that global warming is happing, and that human pollution probably contributes, but it is no more likely that humans are a major factor than any one of many other probable contributors. People forget this, so we end up focusing only on changing our pollution habits, and the battle over it, rather than the larger problem of correcting or dealing with the problem, regardless of the cause.

This is the vehicle by which sugarslim tries out the arguments sane people try to use on him. It's like a man on a ledge using his Casio to record all the people telling him not to jump, then he turns around and hits play to all the formerly-concerned, now-confused onlookers.

He even overwrites his chromium ABBA tape in the process, horrifying.

Mine.

Allow me to simplify them for you:

Kill bankers. Eat their flesh. meep them onto the streets. Rejoice.

The politics of the polititians, man. For most people, global warming isn't a scientific issue, it's a political one. That's why we get all this bullmeep. If the science of climate didn't have anything to do with economic policy, no one would give a meep. So we have all these people weighing in on this issue that really should be left to the people who actually know stuff about it. Meh. It's just annoying sometimes.

Saying human beings are causing global warming is like saying abortion is murder. It's just the left wing way of being a crazy extremist.

Ya, you crazy extremists!

I like the following jujitsu...

1) You guys just have to open your minds; the truth is out there and it is knowable. Don't be blinded by what you see and hear in the vicious press.

2) Ok, have I established my bonafides as an smartypants w/ free mind?

I've never heard anyone in my entire life actually say, 'Stop patronizing me.' I think it's because I'm from the South, and people here prefer to say, 'No meep. I'm not stupid you meep.'

Looking back through this discussion it seems as if Richard_Parker suffers from the same lack of checks and balances as I've had to deal with.

I often find myself explaining how the world works to dumbasses, and this has makes me seem like an insufferable pedant around people I'd probably get along with.

Over time, you learn to test the waters with new acquaintances, to test whether or not you should be a patronizing meephole. Hopefully, this experience will serve as such for RP.

Alright, alright. I get it. I might be speaking the truth, but just as much as an meep whether I'm right or wrong. Great.

But you get to say that without sounding like an meep because you're not directing it at me. Right.

Don't you guys ever feel like you want to change the world, then get rediculously frustrated when it becomes apparent that you can't? What the meep am I supposed to do? Break something?

So, whatever. Point taken.
