Obama Wins The Presidency

HA!

NO SERIOUS! meepING HA!

i, for one, welcome our new insect overlords.

I honestly think that McCain could have possibly beaten Obama if he wouldn't have cashed in his credibility and political self.. when he became subjugated by the Republican extreme platform and let the RNC call most of the shots, he was as good as dead. He couldn't be himself, he had to choose Palin over Liebermann, who would have been a much better VP. The extreme Right hijacked his campaign and pretty much threatened to sit this one out, if he didn't sign his name and soul over to them. I know, this is a simplification, because McCain really had no choice but to use the Republican machine, but he could have held them in check by threatening to run as an Independent. Of course, he would have had like $5 to run the campaign and Ghouliani or Romney would have stepped in as Pub nominee.

In the end, McCain made a Faustian bargain that ended up killing his chance to win. He may have had a chance if he ran it like in 00 and 04, but he lost his chance when he joined the gang of Ghouls.

I'm a Democrat and I know he is an honorable man. I feel grateful for his service, and in many ways, felt so sad for him the past few weeks.

And is it me, or are Democrats (at least the one's at Obama rally's the past year) just better people? No booing, death threats, hatred, or true anger towards McCain. Not that the democratic critics didn't tear into Palin, but she was a meeping idiot well out of her league, so there was a responsibility to vet her properly and openly.

Today is a much better day, esp. when compared to the last 8 years.

McCain would have got even less votes had he picked Liebermann.

Ya think? I dunno about that.

mofo,

I completely disagree. The right would have voted for McCain, because there wasn't another game in town. Independents and Reagan Dems would have most likely considered a McCain/Liebermann ticket. So his net from choosing Liebermann would have been +, not -.

The whole threat of a constituency holding their collective breath until a candidate bends to their will is pure rubbish. Its simple market principals... you have two choices that are distinct, you are going to always favor the one that fits your needs. Look at Hillary's 18 million.. ya think they didn't vote for Obama... meep yes they did.

A Liebermann choice wouldn't have caused McCain to lose any Dems that already didn't like Liebermann, because the reasons that they didn't like Liebermann are exactly why they don't like McCain (war policy, Executive power). So, no net loss there.

Can you substantiate your point?, because I would be interested in seeing your angle.

p.s. it is strange for me, imagining the vladtweano's glee.

McCain backtracking vs Leiberman's treason? I remember when both were Dems. Well no, Joe was a Dem, John briefly flirted with the party.

I'm on this, 24-6

I'm no fan of Liebermann and he is about to meet his fate with the party. He might as well join the Republicans, because his effectiveness and clout in the new leadership will be much less... no more bacon for the district.

The right would have voted for McCain

You think the fundamental religious right, which constitutes a huge percent of Republican votes since the end of the cold war would vote for a pro-Abortion pro-meep rights Democrat as a veep on a centrist ticket? meep, they wouldn't even take Giuliani and he's am actually republican, not just a traitor.

I think most religious rights would just say meep it, the heathen have taken over and would have flocked to their megachurches to take solace in the ever soon to be coming revelation.

Liebermann jumped ship to the Republicans when they were riding high, and now the Democrats aren't gonna let him in. So he's caught in the middle with no where to go. Liebermann or not, I don't think McCain had any real chances to win this (and he was more scared of Clinton lol).

It's the right-wing evangelists that have completely taken over the Republican party. Just take a look at almost any stance the party has a whole, and it's obvious the lobbying Christian psychos have their meep up the Republican party's meep.

It's sad, because I have always believed in many Republican values and am a registered Republican myself, but it seems anyone they choose to run for a leading position doesn't matter anyone, because the candidate will be forced to adhere to the bullmeep that the party now preaches.

I would have voted for McCain because I think he not only is an outstanding American and a true patriot, but I think he has the leadership skills to run a country. However, I voted for Obama for three reasons:

1) Palin is a meeping tool, and the fact the GOP would even consider having her run for VP of the United States is meeping pathetic and makes a mockery of our politics 2) Even though I approve of McCain himself, I know that if he was elected to office he'd be just another pawn like Bush was, and it's sad to realize that our political system is indeed that corrupt and tainted 3) Obama is one of the most charismatic speakers I have ever seen run for political office, and I truly believe he brings new hope to this country. There is a reason young people and many demographics of voters came out in record numbers this year, all I hope now is that Obama and his administration can use our country's current enthusiasm for change and actually make it happen, instead of hanging around with their thumbs up their meep all the time.

The eventual fate of the Repub party will be the 2nd most interesting thing these next two years, following what Obama can achieve.

I think that the right-wing of the party is the party, and that will only cause the repeat of this election in coming years. I actually think it will be worse for them in 2010, as more younger voters are now in the Democrat camp and the next gen of 18-20 years will on the whole line the same way... while the old Repubs die off.

I think it is time to truly split the party and let the extreme join their political leper colony, while the moderates that espouse traditional republican or moderate libertarian values should either go independent or take over the GOP. Either way, it is obvious that the two can't co-exist if either wants to win future elections. That's my call... the party will split along philosophical lines in order to allow them both to survive. Eventually, the extreme wing will devour itself and continually lose elections in coming years.

agreed, I felt outraged by the idea that pat robertson with a meep would be only heartbeats away from running the show.

I don't think you can chalk up McCain's downfall to the management of his caimpaign completely, he let GWB assmeep him for some time, and I'm thinking about the torture bill here. This was such an example of hypocrisy I almost can't think of a better example in modern politics. Here's a torture survivor, spear-heading a bill to ban torture, pushing it through congress and then watching the administration willfully disobey it with signing statements and with the continued existence of renditions/guantanamo. He didn't put up a fight. This guy started down the path of serious irrelevence way before he became the third best option for the republican ticket.

And if McCain lost it for his temperment, I'm not sure anyone else could have done better. I'm not sure anyone quite understands just how good Obama's ground game was. Here in NC, he turned a state utterly apathetic towards him to victory by 12,000 votes. The liklihood of this happening was almost nil. But he has several dozen offices, paid caimpaign staff, and a highly coordinated strategy. I happen to know people working in the durham office, which is a prodominately black area, that got conference calls from Obama himself-which were regular for the NC caimpaign apparenty. He was watching over this entire process. Durham got something like 80% of the black community out to vote and took the county by around 70%.

The guy his brilliant. This is quite possibly most well-run political caimpaign in modern history, and that's not overstatement-miles better than Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Bush, and Reagan. And don't forget how large the popular vote gap is here-that's rather unprecedented as well.
