I was considered one of the smartest kids in class all through grammar school. I wasn't the pet, but I got to go to the store to get art supplies instead of doing spelling tests and such and had alternative assignments to keep me busy. Got into smartass-induced trouble alot. Biggest mistake I made was to reject an opportunity to go to a 'magnet' school in 5th grade, wanted to stay with my meep friends.

That lasted until I started smoking pot in 8th grade. When they started doing drug testing on the job I just drank more till I became a full-blown alkie. I still reject the bullmeep notion dispensed in treatment circles that one stops developing emotionally as soon as they start using. That would put me at about 14 and discount 30 years of life experience.

I was a genius when I was younger, but refused to be put in the advanced classes because homework is a meepgot. Not the best decision, but I'm no drunk yet.
