Car That Runs Primarily On Air

Air is very dangerous under high pressure. A small hole in a pressurized system will explode. Also you'd have to make all of the pressure system out of carbon fiber to keep the weight down. That's expensive.

gasoline is very dangerous because it is flammable. a small hole in a gas tank could lead to an explosion. also you'd have to make the vehicle out of aluminum to make it efficient.

Gasoline is pretty fuking dangerous. Especially when it's all over your skin and burning.

The air tanks are made from carbon fiber. AFAIK, the tanks have pre-manufactured fault lines along which they burst in an accident. Carbon fiber does not shard in an explosion like metal containers. Instead, it holds together everywhere but at the fault lines.

The worst thing that can happen in a carbon fiber tank rupture is that you will experience a mild shock wave, and only if you are close to the tank. Surely, it will be loud. If gasoline and air mix in right proportions, the meep will blow up with higher brissance, and more dangerously, you would burn.

It'll probably be priced for the limosine liberal set...if it ever does hit the market, that is.

One thing that sounded false from the video is that when the host says that the engine will only be slightly warm when running. But gas when it expands gets colder. After running hard for a while your engine would ice over in humid environments.

And 4 big tanks at 4300 psi sounds exciting, but I am having a hard time believing their claims of 1000 miles on a fill up.

And anybody who has filled a SCUBA tank will tell you that when you put 4300 psi into a tank quickly the tank gets smoking hot and needs water cooling and a cool down period to get all of your air in there.

Good point re: gas getting colder. The engine is not going to ice over because of heat generated by friction of the moving parts.

In fact, they say in one of the videos that the air of out the engine is used for air conditioning.

It's also probably true that tanks will get pretty freaking hot when filling them up. But carbon fiber can handle the heat, and unless someone will be touching those tanks, who cares?

As someone who fought in Battlebots I can assure you that even the most violent attack on a fiber wound tank was little more than a bang and FSSSHHHHHHhhhhhh till empty.

It also matters at what rate you fill the tank, Slower you will get a lower heat over a longer period of time and not melt the resins that make up the tank
