The 'wrong message' was getting involved in this clustermeep to begin with. Those 'blowing off' the war are republicans (who started it) and have had nothing but disastrous ideas/policies since.

Yes, this debate is certainly one side 'jumping off the edge.' Your copy/paste histrionics seem to imply that the TERRORISTS WIN if we elect some democrats into some seats in the house and senate. It's not like democrats have been a big ol' stumbling block for Bush anyway. When his approval ratings were through the roof, they bent over backwards to accomodate him. Remember how many dems voted against the war? Against the Patriot Act? Now that his approval ratings are hitting rock bottom, they're abandoning him, and so are republicans. It's politics.

I believe the problem is with career politicians.
QFT. i get tired of hearing democrats == republicans; not true. they do, unfortunately, have the same motivations. first among equals being getting reelected (hence the bullmeep, middle of the road, watering down of most politicians' platforms). the other would be benefitting themselves financially. i'd hope that (naively) people get involved in politics to do some good (i.e. look out for their constituents' interests) and then eventually corrupt (much like cops), but i really doubt it.
furthermore, i've used my daily parentheses allotment already.

Nocal: South Park is actually sort of quasi-libertarian in their 'politics.' Ultimately though, they just rip on everyone.
Nonetheless, most people don't seem to mind career politicians. In fact, one or two senators won because their opponents weren't seen to have enough 'political experience.'
I think experience is exactly what we don't want.
I don't like big-party politics because ultimately nobody is really represented by those they vote for. If we weren't all blinded into picking between two candidates, and instead opened up to a wider spectrum, we could all be represented by someone who will work for our interests. The two party system denies us this right.
Oh, and anyone who thinks that ANY Repub. or Dem. is a political savior or hero is sorely mistaken. Barack Obama was in NJ campaigning for Robert Menendez, who is one of the biggest criminals in Washington (formerly the biggest Criminal in NJ)... He's not working for you, he's working for DNC, Inc. -- Just like Bush is pushing for the GOP Corporation... Don't kid yourselves. If anyone in these two parties was REALLY working for your interests instead of the party line, they'd be kicked out.

That is exactly what makes the parties alike. Both are rich and moneyhungry, both don't give a meep about you or I.
'That's why I won't be voting.'

Yeah, as though politicians will allow that meep to happen. These are the same people that vote themselves pay raises. Besides the fact that, of all people, you should be wondering if our votes even count what with all the ballot box stuffing, hacking, and dead people voting :)

I'm talking about people on the internet. I would say that they caused a lot of the libertarian orgy that went on on the internet as well. Either that, or they are able to catch these silly political trends just before they become really big on the internet.

I think its one thing to not support the war but to not support the soldiers is another thing. They are ordered to go there or spend time in jail. When they sign the bottom line they are told before hand what the possibilities are. For any of you to say you dont support your soldiers is meepin wrong. You dont have to support the war but atleast give these men your respect. Some dont want to be there, they would rather be with their family and friends. I have been in the military and no the fealing of having pride for your country and when I see those soldiers over there getting shot and blown up, it makes me want to be there more for them. They dont have a right to say they dont want to go unless they want to spend time in jail.

If they don't want to be there, they shouldn't have signed up in the first place.. seeing as how they were told of the possibilities of their enlistment beforehand. When I went in 11 years ago my wife was holding our first child. I was making 8 bucks an hour with no benefits. It has nothing to do with 'my father was in and his father was in' or ' hehe im a redneck and want to shoot me some ragheads'. Maybe some are but the ones I have met mostly had nothing else in their lives and wanted more. Its a gamble you go in you learn a trade you get out or you have the possibilty of war.
Alot of families have lost fathers, sons, mother, daughters, sisters and so on. Some have lost arms, legs and the posibility to even live a normal life after coming home. People like Nocal who says he dont give a meep and doest support the troops is meepin outright wrong. You put a swastika on my head and this guy dont give a meep about the lives lost and the people out there fighting because they were given a command to do it. Im sick to my stomach right now even thinking about it.
Im sure everyone of those soldiers out there would rather be home with there wives and going to their 8 to 5 jobs and having some burger king everyonce in awhile. I would love to see you stand out at an airport when several hundred soldiers come home and say you dont support them.
I dont know what more to say and after this bullmeep and these childish meepin comments. Some of you act like a buch of meepin gold spoon fed babies. Get over yourself. Do you even know the meaning of life?

I know that 'the meaning of life' should not be about starting bullmeep wars that cost billions of dollars, thousands of lives, and untold amount of goodwill and political capitol around the world. The people fighting it have no say in it unfortunately, they signed up to be unquestioning drones. But this really is not about them at all, is it?

Well, in a way it is - if you really love our troops, then you'll want them brought home, instead of fighting some nonsensical war in someone else's country that doesn't even really affect us. And now that the Dems are taking over, wolfer should be overjoyed.
Personally, I think we owe a lot to Iraq and Afghanistan also, and that if we do withdraw troops, we should do a lot towards helping them in other ways, if possible. But I don't really expect the Dems to do that any more than the Reps - it's only that I think the Dems will do less damage.

When we invaded their countries, it was with the understanding that the enemies were the governments, not the people. We made promises to them to help them rebuild their countries. Afghanistan was in large part forgetten and left to decay into an opium economy with a Taliban resurgence, and it is generally accepted that we totally screwed the Iraqi reconstruction effort.
So yes, I think we owe them.

Haha. It wasn't my textwar, and if it was, you can be sure I'd claim it. I like the fingerpointing though. Do you not realize that my avatar is of a republican? And meep the troops, man. They know what they're getting into. You say they took a gamble. No meep. They were trying to suck the teat of the US government without having to go to war, and that meep backfired on them. Welp, suck it up and go to war. I don't have to suck your meep for doing your job. Now maybe I'd be ready to suck their meeps (in a row, not all at once) if they fought a war of my choosing. But that meep is really like saying the good people at Kinkos make copies for you. Now you can argue against the owner of Kinkos but how dare you insult the minimum wage workers therein?! It's their meeping job, they get paid for it. Ok new thought, if they go to Iraq for free and fight the evil terrorists out of the goodness of their own hearts, I will suck their meeps. Get to work on that.
