yes very fancy schmancy

I have a pretty good stereo at home (insert brandnames here: Paradigm, Denon, NAD). I have good sound, but the problem is finding good music that's worthy of all that equipment.

Really, the music is under-engineered nowadays. I think the best record I have so far in that respect is Jean Michel Jarre's latest audio DVD, but that's only because he created all that music in the early 80's and had some 20 years to reengineer it...

By the way, I think a lot of the top electronic/trip-hop/whatever talent (like NIN, Prodigy, Portishead, Moby) do obsess enough with the quality of their music to make high-end listening worthwhile.

Pop, on the other hand, is abysmal. It's designed for listening through boomy cheapo in-ear headphones. Not to mention that they compress the living meep out of their samples and even voice.

Any other recommendations?

Interesting. I never heard of this JMJ person before, and this notwithstanding I wonder if there's some similiarities betwixt himself and The Orb?

Similarities? SIMILARITIES?!?!?!?!

JMJ is the grand-daddy of all electronic music, a dude which really pushed the envelope. He's a contemporary of Kraftwerk (whose sounds are too mechanical in comparison) and Tangerine Dream (whose music was way too spaced out, and still is, to make sense for me).

Depeche Mode, Armin van Buuren and many other fine folks in the know worship this dude.

You probably heard his music before without even knowing. Oxygene, Equinoxe, and Magnetic Fields are the recommended albums. The album that I was referring to is Aero, from 2004. I think it has most of his hits, and works best in a surround sound setup. So if you really want to push your receiver to the limit, this is the one to buy.

lol, some hip hop guy is just salivating at the chance to scratch some meep on those rigs.

After reading a link here on the swarm I ordered one of these: Sonic Impact Digital T Amp

This little sucker is truly amazing, I moved all my big Sony equipment out to the garage and have been totally happy running my Bose speakers with the T Amp. Don't let the 15w a channel fool you, it is plenty loud and super clean.

^^ u mean teh kinder surprise?....sicko lol

ha ha... thanks Hy-Man

Good call on the Sonic T-Amp. Actually, it needs to be modded with better input capacitors to get better bass frequencies lower than 40K. I have ordered all the parts necessary, and will post a photo gallery after I manage to spare a whole day for soldering.

Al DiMiola- Elegant Gypsy/Casino Sensation's Fix-Flying Tapes King Crimson-Lark's Tounge in Aspic/Islands/Three of a Perfect Pair Ozric Tenticals-any of them Gentle Giant-Octopus/Free Hand Mahavishnu Orchestra-Visions of the Emerald Beyond or lookey here

I first hear Oxygene in the late 70's and it still rules the electronic music scene. I heard it later stoned and tripping and it owned 73% more even than its previously projected market share. I shall have to find it again to enjoy on my fine audio system.

I have a Fur Elise ring tone on my treo. NV ME

Reminds me of this clip.

Crackalackin: If you're into Prodigy, Portishead & Moby, I'd suggest these bands/djs as well; Massive Attack, Zero Seven, Plaid, Hoover, Sasha (techno dj), Tiesto, Carl Cox, there's way more I can't think of now.

Cool
