I'll agree that the math for the Bush plan sux, but why not fix the math? I just can't understand why smart people argue FOR letting the government fix our problems, when the government has shown us time and time again that it is only capable of fuking things up worse.

Outside of the extraordinarily poor, most people who make a decent wage can save on their own for retirement. The earlier you start, the more you'll have, and the smaller the amounts you need to put away. People who rely on Social Security for a comfortable retirement are idiots.

until something fuking disasterous happens that leaves you with zilch. that's what ss is for. it's not meant to be a sole source of income, although in some cases it certainly (and unfortunately) is.

anyway, the point of this is not to argue the merits of ss. the point is that bushco wants this so badly that they're willing to throw away millions of tax dollars on a travelling dog & pony show and feed you lies to do it. if that doesn't immediately raise your hackles, you're probably dead.

You can assert that SS is there to help you in the event 'fuking disasterous happens that leaves you with zilch' based upon the rationalizations held forth to execute the fiscally an morally bankrupt concept.

I know that you, of all folk here, know better than to do that.

Rather than the bullmeep sales pitch, take a look at what SS is actually used for, how it actually works; examine it's operating moral and fiscal principles and you'll then know it's purpose.

The 'travelling dog and pony show' does not raise my hackles in the least, because 'reforming' SS in any manner other than eliminiating it remains nothing more than perpetuating the atrocity that it is.

I mean really, first there was bullmeep, then there was bullmeep plus!, then there was bullmeep Ultra!, and now there's bullmeep extreme.

In this LOki's mind, it's the same bullmeep in a different package and the 'opposition' does not oppose the continuing of the bullmeep, but actually want to keep the bullmeep, and further more actually do oppose the perfectly valid (although disingenuous) selling points of account ownership and privatization.
